Too bad it won't have the power to drive my HP's, so it's still a no-go for me.

Besides, I own an Android phone, and I'll be upgrading shortly (well, maybe). RockBox should be available for my device shortly, so the Sony Android X (which is actually the phone that they announced - is it out yet???) isn't for me.

I might like Android - but I don't want everything around me to run it. Even if Sony does make a dedicated DAP/PMP - no thank you.

Was at Akihabara today (Electric Town, Tokyo), and saw the overseas version of the 846 for approx. $318. The 847 was only being offered in the Japanese version (can't remember the price).

Picked up a Fiio L5 connecter for my A829 http://bit.ly/cLuEyX for $15.

I've never used an android device in my life. I can't afford the monthly plans from T-Mobile ($90+ a month). So I wouldn't mind taking the sound quality of the X series and shoving it into an android UI. It would at least mean a much better web browser, which would be a nice feature to have. I'd take it. The J3 is better on sound quality though, I had one for a short while, I miss it.

I had a cowon j3 when it initially came out, I returned it just didn't like the sound I prefer my sony x better. TDS let us know how you find the sound when you get it, I am curious to know how you will compare both since you have had a sony x

the video out is useless if you ask me, once a sony walkman can do hd video out, then it will be a much more useful option.

I love the J3, and the SQ and volume output are da' bomb. The build quality isn't as solid as the X Series, but it's still quite solid. The screen is fantastic, and the EQ and sound enhancements put Sony to shame.

Besides, I'm tired of how the USA and Canada get shafted by Sony by not releasing the higher capacity players over here. And when they do get released, it's 6 months to a year late - screw that!!! Even when the EU and North America get the players, it's seriously dumbed down compared to the model available in Japan.

Seriously, Sony can KMA!!!

I bought the 846 (Overseas model) today in Akihabara (Tokyo). Paid approx $300 USD (converted). My wife gets my 829.

I like the FM option, and videos being shown in their folders. To me, the SQ seems no dif. than the 829 using UE Triple Fi's, Shure 530's, and the Fiio/Oyaide LOD (not the $$$ ALO), although with the LOD the 846 doesn't seem as loud as the 829.

The one accessory that I really like is the clear hard plastic case (much like the 829's version), but this has a flip-out stand (instead of using the clip-like thing). Also got the BT add-on and the Vid out cable (yet to try either). Also haven't tried NC yet (but I haven't tried NC on my Viao P yet either).

I'm happy. :-)

I take it sony does not impress you much these days ....maybe i might consider the j3 again when the price drops, i think its overpriced just like the sony x ..lol

I have a nwz a845(european version)and the volume at 30 is low,i guess it have a volume restriction,¿do you know its possible install US firmware in EU version?
its possible by other methods...........acces to test mode,new firmware in the future.........

I've listened to the A845 since its launch last month in India and i have no problem with the volume..listened to it at 30 and it was more than sufficient.So i think the volume restriction is in EU only. No worries here!

Mine started getting wobbly after a while, but didn't bother me till the earphones started crackling when I twisted them, so I sent it in for a repair. They're changing the jack and motherboard.

Thanks ghibli, my shot has a slight back and forth but it's really almost inpercettibile and even when it moves there is no noise audio. We hope not to need assistance in the future!
