Well I just ordered an X series. broke my A728 and sent it in, most likely I'll probably be given a S series and end up selling it.

so unfortunately I get to pass on this guy even though he is looking awesome. Lastly, man accessories for the X series are expensive man,

also it seems like sony has been undercutting battery life a little even though it is nothing like cowons which are always over 45hours.

for anyone who is interested in getting one of these, there are a few on ebay right now. i just bought a 64gb version, came out to around $583 canadian, shipping included. costs way too much, but i'm sick of waiting for a decent upgrade. i can post pics of the menus and stuff when it gets here if anyone wants.

While browsing for A840 specs for my comparison chart I found this photo of one in a clear hard case. I think this case makes it look even better. When I first saw the A840 I didn't care for the design too much, but now the more I see it the more I like it. Also glad to see the album art display is bigger.

hmm, thing is, CES is soo close that it would be clumsy to purchase anything at this moment...or import anything, best to wait and see what sony launches at CES.

I hope so. Everything I've seen regarding Sony's model numbers is that NW part numbers are Japan/Asian models and NWZ part numbers are for the rest of the world.

The only differences that I can find between NW and NWZ models (in the new S745 - the only new model I've found so far that has an NW and an NWZ version) is that the NW has a Japanese FM tuner range of 76-90Mhz, additonal audio CODEC support of Atrac and Atrac Advanced Lossless, and possibly Japanese/Asian-only language display (these features are on all of the new Japanese NW S640, S740, and A840 series). The NWZ-S745 that is on the Canadian Sony Style site lists an FM tuner range of 87.5-108Mhz, no Atrac support (at least not listed on the website), and Western languages. If there is going to be an A840 series in North America/Europe, I'd guess that it will have an NWZ model number. I think the key thing to look for would be the FM frequency range.

Off topic: Why do Japanese/Asian-only models have the button labels in English? I've never understood that.

well the nwz-74x had no press release on the canadian sony press site so the new A series could still appear suddently on the website, but then I am waiting for CES, sony would be stupid not to release something new there.

EDIT: I would have sticked with my Walkman X ... if it just wouldnt be so .. bulky >> thats why the A840 is so friggin' appealing and I want it ffs >:[

i would like to buy the japan version ; but i want to know if the radio will work in france ?

I think ; the radio in japan is not the same ...

The question above all others I have is does it 'Remember Playback Position'?

To answer a previously posted question, its simply because majority of asians can understand what play, back, home mean in english, not only that they are pretty universal terms. It's not exactly rocket science...and The X series has the japanese, korean, and Chinese language display as well so there is no huge difference between the two with these exceptions.

screen - 3.0 vs 2.8
codec - zero except the NW versions get atrac for gapless
hardware - obviously the A840 gets some newer hardware
headphones - a840 gets the ex300, I have them before and they were meh.
might get slacker support on the a840 and hope for better refresh.
furthermore the cases are mad expensive for the a840 and X series.

Friend, if Sony doesn't release the 64gb model for the USA, I'll not be buying the brand again for a portable media player. I'm tired of us being played for second fiddle, and I know the people in the EU & Canada must feel the same.

As long as it's 64gb I'll let you know. Otherwise, I'll be steering clear of the "Sony" section of the forums - as I'll not be owning any of their products.
