several questions about firmware...

Hi everybody,

as you can see I'm new to these forums. After reading several reviews on the main page I decided to buy the Samsung P3. This will be my first mp3-player/gadget that actually has some kind of upgradeable firmware. (My "ancient" mp3-player with 128MB didn't have that...)

So, I have a few questions about the firmware-upgrades:

1. My P3 will have firmware version 1.XX. I forgot the exact version but either way it's old and I want to upgrade to the newest version. Do I have to install every single upgrade (2.10, 2.14, 2.18, etc.) or will it suffice to download and install just the newest version?
2. Why is it that according to this thread the newest firmware is 2.20 but on the official Samsung Homepage only 2.18 is listed?
3. Is it true that any kind of warranty will be void if I install a firmware upgrade? And did you (P3-owners) have any trouble in this regard (with the upgrading-process itself and the warranty)?

Hi. No, you don't have to install every firmware - just one of them, 2.14, 2.18 or whatever.

I don't know why Samsung doesn't list 2.20, but several people say 2.18 is better anyway. Me, I like 2.07 as it has more features.

It won't void your warranty installing any firmware.

Do you have any recommendation on which firmware to use? I thought it would be best to use the newest one but didn't know that it's missing certain features...

Some people report problems with 2.20 and have reverted to 2.18. Generally the later firmwares are faster and more bug-free but you can try them all out.

Yep, I would personally go for 2.18, but a lot of members say 2.07 is good too.

Read everything and then choose according to what is the most important for you (sketchbook, touch performance, touh volume control, widget support)

2.07 improvements

• Support AVI files (XviD and Divx max 800*600)
• Support SMI and SRT subtitles with some settings (on/off, sync, size, color)
• New feature "mozaic search” on video mode
• New Theater DNSe on video mode
• New feature "Sketch Book"
• Battery life improvement
• "Album art mirror” in music mode
• UCI editor on EmoDio (only for Koreans for the moment)
• Mute function for FM radio

1.28 improvements

• Touch improvement
• Be careful: You will lose all features you got with the 2.07 version!

2.10 improvements

• Gathering 2.07 and 1.28 improvements
• Be careful: Touch volume control missing
• Be careful: Sketchbook feature missing (but still works with a downloaded UCI theme)

2.14 improvements

• Fix the error of WMA file track number
• Fix the unstable playback(Knocking sound)
• Fix the ''Mood tag'' error under DNSe auto mode
• Fix the no sound error of recording file playback
• Fix the other bug
• Be careful: Sketchbook feature missing with both original and perso UCI themes

2.18 improvements

• Touch performance improved
• Sketchbook feature works again but only with perso UCI themes

2.20 improvements

• SDK 2.0 UCI themes with widgets support

Lebellium:

Your change log is missing one thing for firmware 2.20.

It doesn't state that long/short touch navigation is now supported in UCI 2.0. Not just the widget support.

Do you mean for instance when you touch for a long time the video or music icon you go directly to the last playing file?
Are you sure it was not the case with the previous firmwares?
I've never noticed that was missing before.

with the new UCI sdk/UCIs, you can now press and hold an icon and jump directly to the "now playing" content for that section (music, pictures, videos, texts, etc)
that capability was not there in the old UCIs...

yes exactly. it wasn't there on older firmwares with custom uci's. only worked on the default uci's prior to firmware 2.20 and SDK 2.0

Actually the selection is very hard and administrators don't necessarily agree with my mod propositions, they want the perfection for ABI (ah, someone is just telling me the perfection doesn't exist )
But you know the moderator status is not required to help the community, you already help it well electron

And before this status was awsome to be the most powerful person on earth. But since I've only powers in the Samsung forum and I've lost my ban permission, it's not funny anymore

edit: as regards english, maybe I'll go to London next year to speak better than the average French^^

hi all,

i have 2.20 firmware, but i continue to not have support for flac (it display mp3 or 'unknown' and when i simply drag&drop files on player it says they are not supported!)

this is not nice from samsung, as i bought yp3 just for flac support......

i also saw that these 'bugs' are solved in other samsung player through firmware update....

do you please know some workaround?
