Default Possible New P3 Firmware?... Or not.
Well, according to the user Argetlam, Sammy just released a new firmware for the R1. Here's the thread: http://www.anythingbutipod.com/forum...ewpost&t=50993

Probably also means that Sammy hasn't forgotten completely about the P3 & company, and that maybe the P3 is the next one (or the last in line) to receive an update... What do you think?

I mean, I do know the P3 and other Samsung players are being left behind because of the production/development of the almighty M1 a.k.a P4, but I do still think/hope that at least one last firmware is in their plans.

Anyway, a man can dream...

I sure hope so. 2.2 is pretty cool, but it's crashed on me two or three times in the past two days. Usually it just reboots itself, but one time I had to press the reset button. I really hope that they are making a new firmware, even if it only fixes some of the bugs in 2.2 and they just leave it at that.

That's wild, I've not had a single problem with 2.20 and it lets my Custom UCI's use widgets and touch navigation to work.

Then again, I strip all but the basic ID3 tags and album art off all my files. *shrug*

According to Lebellium - Samsung insider - no more firmwares are planned for the P3.

Yep, no more are planned normaly.
But as you can see, Samsung sometimes listens to me: They have improved the battery life with DNSe enabled in the new firmware version 3.00 for R1!!

But as regards the P3, it is 1 year old now and the M1 is here. So even if I insist strongly on it, the R&D won't listen to me...

The P3 is still the newest touchscreen player from Samsung in the U.S.. If the R1 and M1 aren't planned for U.S. release than I'd love a little more P3 support/updates. It's no where near finished as far as I can tell.

Honestly they do not care on the US market
The main market is the Korean one. In the other countries, particularly in the USA, they cannot compete with Apple

That does make sense. I guess maybe that's why P3s are not sold in-stores, only online. Why waste money on ads & store placement, when you know your player is going to be just feet away from an Itouch in WalMart, for example. That would be a bad idea.

And lebellium, you said "normally," so is it possible that they could change their plans in any given time? I mean, if 2.20 is truly the last one, then that's a big waste for the P3, which has so much potential... Things such as the gapless playback, on-screen volume which was on 2.07, the password protection that the P2 has, etc. are just some little things it needs.

I said "normally" because I met the Korean R&D and the guy told me his team was fed up with the bluewaves system on the P2, it was too stressful , so they decided to slow down firmwares releases on the new products. And he also told me that the P3 has all features it needs. Of course I told him the lack of gapless etc but I really do not think they will release a new firmware just for that.

I can see the Bluewave experiment being stressful, although I'll bet they all earned their pay during the P2's life. It's no excuse to leave a device unfinished though. They must know they broke some features like On-screen volume and there is plenty they could do above just fixing what they broke.
