Firmware 1.27 is officially out...... The biggest surprise is that it has UCI SUPPORT!

Yes it is safe. All firmwares in the world are the same. Only the region code changes.

If they did that would be written in the changelog.

Do not expect much from M1 firmwares, I cannot you tell you more about it and why I say that but that's it

'Cause you're in MTP now (default mode with EU/US region code)
Settings>system>PC connection>MSC
Then you'll see the feature again

I've just successfully upgraded the fw to 1.27 (Korean version). How come when I accessed the System menu, the PC Connection option (where you can change the connection type to either MSC or MTP) is missing? How can I find out whether my M1 is in MSC or MTP mode? I tried looking for the info in system - about but didn't find the info.

You're probably in KR region code so there is only a MSC/UMS mode.
If you want the PC connection option back, you have to change your region code into EU or US for instance.

Okay, I've changed my region to US (using FW 1.27) but still couldn't find the "PC Connection" menu. Interesting. It's okay though, I prefer MSC mode anyway (it's faster than MTP when syncing my music files)

I appreciate the information on the update. I'm not sure if I have minor problem with latest firmware or not but I've noticed when charging that the percentage reading will jump form 90%+ to 100%. After disconnection from power source the reading will jump back to 90% (or close to that value). It has happened a couple of times. I just reset my device and will observe.
Here's hoping we get some nice UCI's soon. This is one area where the S9 shines - lots of UCI options.

Looking at the back of the player, the model number is YP-M1EB (16gb).
