Default Great news!

E-Mail back and forth with Creatives developers.

....and as I was copying the message here I read the :this is only for you don't copy or we'll sue you" part.

So is that a good thing? or bad?

Like they don't mind us tinkering with the firmware/apps? Or they want us to stop they'll send the lawsuit on our door? lol

While doing a little bit of browsing I ran across this article talking about a software design contest for the X-Fi2 that Creative is hosting in China. A link to Creative's Chinese page describing the contest is here. On that page is also a link to the "Design Contest Kit Software" that I would imaging is also in Chinese.

Anyway... just doin' my part to spread rumors and such.

EDIT: Okay... you guys are in for a treat. The "Design Contest Kit Software" download was a PDF File and several videos. The videos are of several more games including 'Solitaire' and a Galaxian type 'Fighter' game all running on the X-Fi2. Even though the PDF is mostly in Chinese there seems to be mention of a 'ZEN_X-Fi2_Simulator', as well as a bunch of stuff about LUA.

Enjoy!

DP I know, excuse it.

Just finished downloading that pack. The accelerometer demo video made me soo happy. I was afraid that the accelerometer wasn't that sensitive! Can't wait! Going to see if I can find any info from the pdf.

Brilliant - Although i'm a little sad that the old notepad coding going to be superseded (it's so rewarding when it works) this might attract professional game companies (such as popcap) to make and sell very high quality apps.

That file on the chinese website says "website not found" when I follow the link. Could anyone who has downloaded it please rehost it on mediafire or something (only takes a second). Thank you

I don't see how it's been superseded, the LUA code still needs to be typed plain text.

For some reason I can't post this link.

Oh I see - for some reason I was thinking they were gunna bring out a graphical IDE for it. Hurrah - all my learning over the last few weeks isn't wasted. The runner will be brilliant though, no more having to keep plugging it into the computer to discover you accidently only put one = in an if statement :P

Thanks for the file

Help me see if understand what's happening here:

1 - The X-Fi2 supports a scripting language called LUA that simply runs and doesn't need compiling? True, partially true, or false?

2 - Creative is sponsoring an app design competition and providing a PC-Based simulator for testing LUA code? True, partially true, or false?

Thanks!

Yes, the applications the users create at this time do not need compiling.
The applications that comes with the firmware is compiled, and can be decompiled partially with "Luadec".

Some of the screen shots in the pdf could indicate that.

1) It gets compiled when you run the lua script. Or you can pre-compile it to speed up the start time of the application.

2) For China? Yes. For others? Maybe.

Was your email saying they'll tell us when the SDK will be ready for us to download?

I don't think they'll ever make the volume indicator bigger. It's just a question off getting used to the touch-screen. I've had many problems regarding this as well also with the back & options buttons on the right hand sides. A Stylus works great though.

The pdf only is now available for download at http://tinyurl.com/CreativeLUA (That's just a quick link to the translated chinese site by google). The site http://tinyurl.com/CreativeLUA2 which is the translated creativelua.com is now also up. Some threads seem to be blocked with a 403 error. Trying to find some sort of information!

it would be ironic if they didnt fix the volume considering its the number one xfi-2 complaint by a longshot.
im hoping one of the geniuses around here can fix the volume control or map out the os so we can do it ourselves.

and im pretty sure that a stylus will end up scratching your screen.

try using your pinky finger.

$100,000 question

when all of these wonderful apps are completed, how & where is Creative going to make them available to us?

I've seen no signs of a Creative app store on their website or in the near future....

heck, I have yet to see signs of real life out of the Creative tech support group.
