Default Cowon i9 Q&A Thread

So how is this player? I figured the S9 wasn't for me, after having bad luck with it. I realized I needed something simple in terms of playing music for me. I don't need video, since I got my laptop for that.

Is this absolutely good if I just want fast accessibility in terms of music? How is the battery life also?

Don't shoot me for saying this, but I came to a conclusion between this or the Zune HD.

For sheer SQ and portability this dap is better than the Zune HD. If you'd also like vids the S9 would be better, and it bests the Zune (IMO) in SQ, customization, and w/the ability to drag & drop files to the player (MTP or MSC).

I've owned both the Zune HD and the S9 at the same time, and the Zune went back in less than a week. I only sold the S9 for space reasons, and I miss that baby every stinkin' day,............. I pray for a 64gb S9 to come out, but I'm not holding my breath. Get an i9 or S9, you can't go wrong.

This is pretty much a perfect player for music - just like the S9, only a simpler interface. Same sound enhancements (the best available, IMO), same gapless playback, same codec support, etc.

The touch/scroll interface works well, and you can sort your music the way you want via file/folder browsing - unlike the Zune, which sorts the music the way it thinks it's right (which usually goes wrong). Of course the i9 has ID3 browsing too, if one wants to use that.

It's acceptable. It's not the usual insanely long Cowon battery life, but it holds up for 20-30 hours. This is the absolutely thinnest and sexiest Cowon player so far, which in itself can be a nice reason to get the i9 (except for people like JK98).

That's like choosing between the wide open plains and a luxurious looking high security prison... with the Cowon you can do what you want, with the Zune you have to use the player how Microsoft wants you to use it. The Zune is just like a worse, more locked down version of the iPod monoculture.

The i9 does probably have longer battery life than the Fuze, however the $99 model is just 8 GB and has no card slot. If it had a card slot, or the 16 GB model was $99 then it would be much more interesting.

I can't believe you really felt the need to reply to what I wrote, and to add your standard monologue about those issues you care about so much. It's not like I didn't read the same a thousand times already.

Great, thanks for the rundown.

I'm heavily leaning towards the i9 now, since I've missed the S9's SQ. ;_;

Having a standard mini usb slot is worth 20 hours of battery life to me

dfkt: You mention the interface works well, but I have a question:
How does it do navigating trough long lists?
In the video review he did go up/down a little, but he didn't go trough a +- 200entry list from top to bottom.

Could someone maybe upload a youtube video, just going from top to bottom in a long list?
That'd be great.

If you slide your finger fast over the center it goes quite fast and accelerates, then slows down on its own. It works well. I don't have folders with hundreds of files since I sort my stuff in folder/subfolder hierarchies. Maximum I have are folders with 30, 40 tracks and it works great.

As far as it looking good, Cowon just simply can't compete. If Cowon is going to plan to "revolutionize" anything new, it should be to either A. work with iRiver so iRiver can design the model and Cowon can handle the components B. Keeping everything ugly as they are and reducing price as much as possible w/o hurting quality.

Only thing I am slightly sad about is that my i7 doesn't have ViVa support... But that is definitely not worth paying $100 for.

What exactly is it that you don't like about the i9?

FWIW; I find it so extremely much better than the i7, it's not even funny: UI usability, UI design, slimness, gapless, ViVA, album art (i.e. screen resolution), native video support, video out.

I can only think of one thing that looks better for the i7 than the i9, and I'm not gonna go there.

Yes, but it's not user replaceable!

The i9 has much shorter battery life than the i7 and a much higher price. The i7 16 GB is down to $110. I wonder how low it will go? It would be interesting if the i7 16 GB drops to $80 or less.

Yeah. Don't buy it. That question wasn't directed at you but at Fmwyso, by the way.

Is the touch pad interface as easy to use as the iPod's click wheel because that was easy and it was the only touch pad thing I've ever used. I need something to compare with.

Woot.

Got my own thread, haha. My i9 should be here by next week, can't wait, I've been craving S9's SQ for a long time.
