.mkv 720p playable?

Hi,

If i have a 720p .mkv file, and i convert it to a .h264?, will my p3 be able to handle playing it?

its kinda big, 3gigs so i dont want to convert it if its a no go.

h.264 handles a max resolution of 480x320. You can get a maximum of 800x600 on the P3 using Divx/Xvid.

Well the horizontal resolution for 720p is 1280 pixels in a widescreen aspect ratio.

You can convert to Xvid but I believe you will need to bring the resolution down to 800 pixels wide while maintaining the aspect ratio.

I don't believe the P3 plays mkv files natively period. I think mkv has to be converted to a different container such as Xvid or DivX to play on the P3.
