Default Zen Vision M only booting in recovery mode


Recently my Zen Vision M stopped working properly.

It started with each time I turned it on it would say 'Rebuilding'. This then stripped off half of the music on the player. Since then, I have been unable to fix the problem despite trying many solutions mentioned on this forum. In fact, I may have made the problem worse-it now only boots into 'Recovery Mode' and also says Firmware error.

I am running a laptop with Windows Service Pack 3 and Windows Media Player 11.

When I connect my Zen to the laptop it is recognised in device manager but not in Windows Media Player and I think most importantly not by the Creative MP3 Player Recovery Tool. I am unable to add/upgrade the Firmware as the Firmware update says 'Your player is not connected, please connect your player'.

Any help would me much appreciated, I am close to giving up.
