Problem using application

Hi everyone! i bought an x-fi2 some days ago and i've just spotted what seems like a bug...
everytime i open up a random application, the sounds get lower and lower by themselves, and the only thing i can do to get them back is to quit the application and re-open it
it does it with every app, but only if i'm using my earphones

any suggestion?
