Quick question: would I gain anything by using the latest bootloader?

A bit more battery life (I had 30 more minutes on my Clipv1) and no crashes at boot (black screen)

Alright. Do I just drag/drop the new bootloader or do I need to re-do the process from scratch?

From scratch (although that involves dragging and dropping a firmware file patched with the bootloader).

Research would show that you gain 4+ hours of battery life.

the clip boots into the original firmware when you connect a usb cable so it charges fully as normal.
i guess it's only people hacking around with usb in rockbox that are seeing that issue.

Same deal. You hold down the home button when turning on to boot to sansa's Original Firmware, whether you are charging with USB, AC adapter, or when you want to transfer files.
Actually, I've never tried this myself as I've haven't plugged in my AC charger to my clip+ yet. I would probably turn the unit off and plug it in first just in the slim chance that it could charge without turning on...but it will likely turn on and boot to rockbox when plugged in, so that's why you boot to OF for some things like charging for now. |

I don't think rockbox can currently tell the difference between an AC charger and a USB one (since the USB stack isn't enabled yet), so there shouldn't be much difference between them.

Here's the same v2.0 bootloader with the new 01.02.15 firmware: v2.0-bootloader-sansaclipplus-01.02.15-dual_boot.zip

I saw that in the initial stages Rockbox appeared to increase the battery life - is this still the case? On the OF the battery life was circa 11-12 so with Rockbox are we talking 15-16 hours?

The EQ is fantastic, and very flexible in its usage. Honestly a better and more advanced implementation than any stock firmware I've seen on any player. The sound you can get out of rockboxed Clip+ is pretty damn astounding for such and inexpensive player, so do yourself a favor and pick one up!

rockbox has a full configurable parametric equalizer - not the sort of fixed band equalizer you'll find on some of the better firmwares. It's great

On OF i got 10-11 hours usually while trying not to use buttons/screen a lot, but on rockbox i get about 16 hours when actually using the screen a bunch. If i remember correctly my last battery bench was 17h30min ish.

Thanks, Adub. Although I've never had battery duration issues with my Clips (I just charge overnight), that is amazing (and should help quiet people constantly complaining about the Clip's battery).
