Media Coder - Dev Thread

Even though my tutorial rips DVDs quite well, many people have had problems with converting videos already on their hard drive. For this reason I wanted to start developing an easy method to transcode videos using the freeware program MediaCoder.

I have had a lot of trouble getting different videos to transcode without any problems while playing on the X-Fi2. If you want to help, play around with MediaCoder until you get something that works perfectly on the X-Fi2, then post the following:

1. Specs on the source video file
2. Specs on the final video file
3. Save the MediaCoder presets to a file and attach it to your post

Video:

• WMV9
• DivX4/5
• XviD (standard MPEG-4 Simple (SP) or Advanced Simple Profile (ASP) without GMC and QPEL support)

Max Resolution = 640 x 480
Container: .AVI
Recommended Video Bitrate: 800 Kbps
Recommended Frame Rate: Up to 30 fps

Audio:

• MP3
• WMA (DRM9)
• Audible4
• non-protected AAC (.m4a)
• FLAC (up to 1.1 Mbps)

Also, someone could look into the MediaCoder PMP Edition. It might yield a simpler solution.

I tried getting the PMP but the download refused to work for me, may try again.

I have finally managed to make a video working on my X-Fi2 with this, I just played with the settings a bit. Also the "cartoon" check box is checked, it was because I at first tried to convert an anime, but forgot to uncheck it. This time it did the whole video at the correct framerate also. Although the vid was only 12 min+, and my last attempts gave me aprox 11min clips.

I'm not exactly sure how all the settings are, but I'll post the preset file.
