Sony Walkman NWZ-B143 No Longer Working (Can't play music etc)

Hello everyone!
My first post here but I will try to make it as useful as possible.
I bought this mp3 player about 3 months ago and it has worked perfectly so far. Unfortunately about a week ago all went to pot, there was an xbox 360 update that allowed me to play music from my mp3 player, I plugged it in and it worked fine, after about half an hour it disconnected so I remounted it, it worked for about 20 minutes and then went of again, the next time it lasted about 3 minutes and wouldn't re-connect and told me that no songs could be found.
I brought it downstairs and plugged it into my computer (mac os x 10.2.8) and it came up but with only the Recordings folder, I tried remounting it and resetting it but it still came up with only that one folder. After not finding anything online on how to fix it I decided to format it thinking that it wouldn't do anymore harm but alas it did.
Now there is nothing (obviously) but I can't turn the player on at all, it just shows the loading dots for about 30 seconds before turning off.
I now have a 4gb flash drive -.-
If anyone has an ideas I would love to hear them, I've been thinking maybe a Firmware reload but I couldn't find any, also I use an apple mac so I'm not sure how I would go about doing it anyway.
