This morning I checked my e-mail, and I received this interesting email from Zune Service saying "Zune System Maintenance Beginning June 21st, 2010". The email says that you will not be able to purchase any content from the Zune Marketplace for 24 hours starting at 11:00 (PST) am. I have attached a snapshot of the email. What do you think this email is about? Do you think it is something big, or just small updates that we won't even notice?

Yeah same here...no matter what it is, I'm just happy something is happening, nothing's happened in a while. Maybe we can find out some more info in this from Dave, when he can, if he can give us more info.

my guess, they will be adding a few apps to the marketplace, while also updating the marketplace with categories for the apps.
my logic is simple, someone suggested the categories thing to dave and he replied by saying something like "you say it like we havn't started working on this" and the apps, b/c it has been about 5 weeks since hearts and spades were released...just seems about time (i was expecting this to happen last week actually) there my be some other updates but probably nothing we will notice. |

Usually server maintenance with extended downtime means potential hardware or software upgrades. Significant downtime wouldn't be required to add apps to the marketplace, or even to categorize it, so if that happens, it's more likey coincidence than as a direct result.
If I had to guess, it might be a precursor to eventual cloud storage, like what Google is attempting to roll out as the 2nd phase to their online music distribution(first phase hits in 2-3 months). That or they're just taking down the servers to finally manually add in the album art for the Smashing Pumpkins' Melancollie and the Infinie Sadness

I hope it's some kind of meaningful (front-facing) update...app categories, freecell app, etc. I'm hoping the marketplace will be back up soon so I can log back in and finish some downloads I was doing last night.

I was wondering why I couldn't log-in today!
But I doubt it's anything too big, maybe some new additions to the Marketplace, hopefully a new app/game or two

Well it looks like the marketplace recommendations are a lot better than before, for me at least.

I am so mad I was really hoping for new apps. |

Looks like the update was for integrations with Bing. Search for music on Bing and you will see.

Much better recommendations for me. I was so tired of always being recommended Blondie.

when you search from bing, for a band or something, and you hit the little play logo next to a song, this window pops up:

I don't see how you got to that on bing...I see no such option...perhaps its because I'm from Canada?
