Hey, FYI, for those interested, I just re-ran a v2 Fuze battery bench test. Significant change from my first test is that I properly set the backlight this time to NOT light up during the track changes this time around.
See here: http://www.rockbox.org/wiki/SansaRuntime I suspected that this proper backlight setting would hopefully bring the RB time closer to what I observed under the same test conditions on the Fuze OF and it did as you can see. I got 1 additional hour of RB battery life, reducing the difference with the OF to 34 minutes. Next up: battery bench using ogg v6 encoded album, just for s&^%# and giggles... ![]() ![]()

If you're bored you could test this build, which has frequency scaling and 24MHz as the low clock:
http://duke.edu/~mgg6/rockbox/rockbo...encyscaling.7z Was fairly stable when I tried on the clipv2, but I don't have a fuzev2 to test on. |

Thanks saratoga. Not sure when I will get around to that build tho - I am doing the ogg test as we speak.
However, will try and do it at some point this weekend perhaps if it will help you guys out at all. Though tbh, I don't wanna spend all my time running battery benches lol. I wanna use my Fuze to actually listen to music ;-) Even this current ogg test is really out of sheer curiosity rather than of any real importance to me personally as I only use LAME. EDIT: saratoga, that build you reference...Should I test any particular codec [e.g. LAME vs ogg] or could that build hopefully improve battery life across the board?

Should improve battery life with everything, assuming it doesn't crash before the battery is dead.
Edit: No hurries on that test. I'm not even sure if it will work. Just thought it would be neat to see how much difference frequency scaling makes. Last edited by saratoga; 08-19-2010 at 06:53 PM. |

Great, thanks lestatar for doing this battery test, I really appreciate it
. The battery life looks pretty good (not as good as my Zune HD's, though), I can't wait to get mine !

No worries McDougal - just doing my tiny part for the benefit of all and the Rockbox community. Hope it helps folks - you can participate as well, you know...pay it forward when you get yours.
![]() Yeah, I am quite pleased with my v2Fuze/RB battery life. Really, the Fuze is now my daily player of choice. @saratoga: Thanks again - good to know and I will try to do that perhaps this weekend or soonish. I should have no probs reverting back to my current build afterwards, right? As long as I have backed it up? It's old, but r26906 has been nearly bulletproof for me so far. And I just noticed the URL you linked - you a Blue Devil?

Yeah maybe I'll try a battery test when I get mine...unfortunately it's looking like it'll take me a little longer than I thought to get my Fuze....I thought I had $60, turns out I only have $50....oh well. Maybe I can find another way to make some extra. Either way, I'm going to try my best to get my Fuze before the school year starts up again, grr, I don't want to go back to school

Yeah, sadly the summer has to end. For the first time though, I'm actually a bit excited about the school year starting, I'm going my first year into high school and have been accepted into the technical school in my area. I will be taking the information technology course, this is the first time I've actually been excited to go back to school. Anyways, sorry for getting off-topic, I will do a battery test myself once I get my Fuze.

Pick an album, add to dynamic playlist on the devices. Select SHUFFLE OFF and REPEAT ALL. Then go to PLUGINS>APPLICATIONS>BATTERY_BENCH Run it and follow the instructions on the screen. Then start your album and walk away for a day . Run the thing till the battery dies. When you recharge it, there will be a new text file in the root of the player called battery_bench.txt with your results. Some tips: - set a good to loud volume; i used -15dB; - avoid touching the screen/buttons which will cause the device to light up; - if you wanna check periodically to see if things are still running, plug in your headphones; - make sure the backlight settings are correct - DISABLE backlight on song changes. Pretty much it... Check that link in my first post for more Rockbox info/testing methodology... good luck! ![]() -lestatar

EggyCuppy: At some point, perhaps lol...now i just wanna get back to using my Fuze for its primary purpose - listening to music. LOL.... 2 back to back days of battery benching is quite enough for me.
I am tagging someone else in ![]() UPDATE! My OGG battery bench has just completed. Go here: http://www.rockbox.org/wiki/SansaRuntime So, indeed, it seems RB is a bit more efficient with OGG than with LAME. I got almost exactly 1 hour more playtime with ogg, even using q6. For my part, while this ogg result is quite good, I do not plan to switch from LAME to ogg. Primarily because my entire collection is in LAME HQ already and I am pretty damm lazy... However, I will certainly play around with ogg a bit more, just for the experience. YMMW and Hope this helps folks.... -lestatar

eboyer93: rockbox treats everything as a playlist basically.
Do it from Database or the File Browser. Prolly easier to select from the database if your tags are good. open up the album, select and play track 1. all the rest of the album will be added.

I left the Fuze in the original FW after recharging [my build of RB is older with no USB support]. Then I just selected the same album I was using for testing under RB, set it to REPEAT and NO SHUFFLE and that was it.
![]() Oh yeah, only diff was with the OF, there is no battery_bench app obviously. So I notated the start time of the test, left it for around 20 hours and then made sure I was around for the end of the test. Around the 21 hour mark I plugged headphones into the Fuze and left my area quiet so I could hear the exact moment the music stopped [meaning the battery was dead].
