Five new Archos tablets

So it looks pretty good. Not sure why the reviewer tried typing prior to calibration or why they tried in portrait mode. Anyways it looks pretty good for a small device. That said it makes me regret my Archos 3 purchase even more. For 75 bucks more than I paid I could have had a pretty cool device. Oh well just a better excuse to get the Archos 70 when it is released.

Too bad Why not 32GB or 64GB?

nand flash is expensive, this player/"tablet" is not, that's why.

after all it has an msdhc slot, so you "could" upgrade it to 48 gb.

I'm liking the Archos 43 so far, especially since it'll make a great stand-alone video player. Capacity is OK if I concentrate on video or music alone. I'd just have it as a 1 trick pony anyways - unless the SQ is good. Then I'd find much issue w/the smaller capacities.

I am crossing my fingers for the 43 to not suck. That is about the perfect size screen for my uses. Hopefully they carry it at some local stores so I can give it a trial run.

I may have to finally hit up B&H Photo (again) or J&R Music World in NYC w/my buddy lestatar when it hits the B&M (if he's available when the Archos 43 is released). Hopefully we can both check this out and give it a "yay or nay".

I would really appreciate hearing what you guys have to say about them. I am still leaning towards the Archos 70 but I think a lot of the stuff will be similar.

These things appear a bit ram starved. According to this the 28 has 128mb of ram and the other models all have 256mb. Android 3.0 will apparently recommend 512mb for best function. Most of the fancy Android cell phones already have 512mb from what I can tell. Oh well.

I'm a little excited about the 43, if only they would port BBE to android somehow this might be a stellar player.

Yeah the ram is a bit low. Apparently also an issue that you can't store apps on the expandable memory which is an issue for those that want lots of apps. I really just want:
An ebook app
Last Fm
Email
Skype
MP3s
Video
web browser

So based on that this seems pretty ideal. For people that are going to be pushing these things with lots of apps and gaming they might be a bit disappointed, but for the price I think it will be fine for me

Bestbuy in Canada is now carrying the 32 and I am hoping that means the 70 is on the way.

That's good news, hopefully they don't rape us on their markup. I'm fairly interested in the 43, with it's beefed up processor and significantly better battery life it should make a great player.

The 32 I saw was 169 so that is a 20 dollar markup and then add the HST for another 20...

I had my hands on a 43 last week. A little heavier than my iTouch. Big screen, fast response. The one I played with was a little too sensitive almost. It is not capacitive as a stylus can be used and pressure is required, but they might be doing a little finger sensing as well. The media apps looked thorough. I appreciate the high resolution on a larger screen more than the new iTouch staying the same size with more pixels. It wouldn't play everything the owner had put in it. Lossless WMAs wouldn't play. No videos over 720p would play either. Apparently you can hook it up to a TV with HDMI and the screen big screen simply becomes a dual display for the 43. Android TV, anyone? There is one included racing game, and it used the g-sensor to steer with. Not easy.

I may get one myself. I didn't like the bottom edged earphone jack. The speakers sound amazing given their small size. The camera is 2mp, and a tiny lens that seems poorly located on the back near the bottom edge. Media play is what impressed me though, and with bluetooth and WiFi and the associated features this could easily replace my iTouch. Once someone figures out how to print from an android device, the 43 could easily replace most netbooks. Keyboards and mice are supported.

Yeah that's pretty normal for bestbuy, they always have a significant markup on pretty much everything. That's one of the reasons i don't shop there unless there is a sale, it's a good deal or I'm unlucky enough to get a giftcard.
