The fast forward/next song button only forwards the song, even if I tap it. Is this some sort of glitch or did I screw a setting up? I'm using Rockbox by the way. Also, is it just me or is there some menu/response lag while using the OF (Rockbox doesn't seem to have this problem)?

Under RB, press and hold the FF/REW scrollwheel to do each task.
Should be same under original Fuze firmware, but I forgot how that works. RB is a faster responding UI IMO, especially if you have it set properly.

It used to work like the OF, but now even if I tap FW/RW, it'll only forward/rewind it, it won't skip tracks. What's wrong with it? (I tried OF with dual-boot and it works normally).

Huh, i misunderstood...
Suggest you try asking here: irc://freenode/rockbox What version of RB build are you using?

I would check my "Prevent Track Skipping" setting.

Skip252: Man, you really never cease to amaze me!
@Fool: Indeed! DO check the setting as skip mentions above, found under SETTINGS>PLAYBACK I just enabled that and now the device does exactly what you describe. You must have enabled that by mistake somehow [unless possibly that is the default RB setting, though I would tend to doubt that]. Awesome, skip252

Wow, thanks Skip252. Yeah, I must've turned it on accidentally while I was toying with Rockbox.
Also, (I don't want to open a new thread for this) I booted my player up in MTP the first time and transferred all my media from there. Now, whenever I try to connect to my PC with MSC, all the folders are there but my music/video files are nowhere to be found. Same thing with the Rockbox File Browser, it can't find any of my music files. |

+1 with Marv. This is perhaps the single most confusing aspect of Sandisk players - innumerable "where did my music go?" posts out there.
Pick one mode. Stick with it until the device dies. Period. Avoid AUTO - it sucks. Most seem to opt for MSC mode for true drag/drop functionality. cheers and indeed skip252 is awesome... -lestatar

Yet another question - sorry guys. When skipping from track to track (I think only manually), there's a slight delay. When I play continuous albums, the gapless playback works fine.
Oh, and, how can I play videos on my Fuze with Rockbox? Is that possible? It won't play the converted AVI files (by video4fuze) by default, and LRC+MPEG player won't work. Last edited by Fool; 10-08-2010 at 08:07 PM. |

In sum: Use WinFF. Note that the Fuze has the same screen resolution as the e200, so that's the preset to go with. |

It takes a little while to actually power up the flash memory and copy the track into RAM when you skip.

Just Rockbox. No video file (no matter which converter/conversion you use) will work in both the Sansa firmware and Rockbox, as the two operating systems have different video requirements.

I'm guessing Rockbox video is generally better than the OF?

Pretty easy to convert the same video twice and judge for yourself. Both WinnFF and video4fuze are pretty quick and dual booting will let you bounce between the OF and Rockbox. Video isn't the strength of the Fuze in either case.

What would generally be a decent setting - full or wide screen? Full screen looks a bit stretched, but I don't want to waste another hour converting Avatar using WinFF. I'm fine with the video quality on the Fuze (beats sitting at an airport for 6 hours)

I tend to prefer maintaining the aspect ratio of the source, even if it means the image has more letterboxing on my player (I just don't like the stretched look). Since Avatar (like most feature films) is undoubtedly widescreen to begin with, that's the setting I'd choose...but it's really up to you. Some people prioritize the image taking up as much of the screen as possible over it being proportionally correct; it's personal preference.

IMHO the Fuze's small screen is simply not suitable for widescreen movies as the converted video will turn out as small as your thumb. That's why I usually only convert some short clips from youtube or something like that, I wouldn't want to watch a full movie on such a small device.
