Size is a non-issue with me when battery life, memory, and sound quality are all factored in... BRING IT STATESIDE QUICK, COWON!!!

This is an epic device...I mean really, it's about the size of an iPad. Oh well. SQ, battery life, memory...It's worth it. If that 103h of audio life is true...That's simply awesome. I wanna get one but damn, won't fit in my pocket. :P

The 480x272 screen resolution is what really kills it for me tho, as I'd be rockin a lot of video on this thing. I also know the SQ will be stellar, but I hope the bass rolloff issue is DOA on it. And it does have all the tactile controls I could ask for, but it's still way off from what we all expected. At least it does id3 tags tho,........

I'd like to get the X7, but it's GIGANTIC!!! And the screen res is BLAH!!! WTF is Cowon thinking. This was sitting in a warehouse somewhere, and Cowon must have just re-discovered it. 2008 is a long time to keep this under wraps, considering how the entire thing REEKS of old tech. AAARRRRGGGHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I waited for THIS?!?!?!

So disappointed in the size/design. Obviously it wasn't going to be small being that it is an HDD player, but something along the lines of the iPod Classic would have been nice. There's no point in having a 4.3 in screen with a resolution as low as it has. I'd trade off screen size for a smaller device. At least the UI looks more along the lines of the S9/J3 rather than the V5.

Cowon, I am disappoint.

I lost all interest in the X7 due to this. Seriously, Cowon, touchscreens are NOT cool. In fact, touchscreens suck majorly. The only reason to ever have a touchscreen is if your device has so many functions that tactile buttons are not feasible (i.e. smartphones, MIDs).

Seriously, I am so tired of DAPs being made with touchscreens. I can't blind control them. I can't control them with gloves on. It's ridiculous.

And you know what? NO HDD PLAYER is completely free of capacitive sensing controls! This dumb brick has a touchscreen. The iPod Classic has a capacitive touchwheel. The Zune has the squircle. Some of these devices don't even have dedicated volume rockers.

Epic fail.

Dear Sony,

Please give us a refreshed and updated NW-HD5 with non-cracking buttons, MTP/MSC compatibility, gapless playback for MP3s and the biggest friggin' hard drive you can cram inside.

If you do this I will gladly pay you gobs and gobs of cash.

Maybe we should see it as a super alternative of the iPod Classic, the sound was'nt so bad on the Classic (I would never own one, I tried one from a friend :P) but I guess the X7's will be way better .
I personnaly don't see any better device to store 160 Go of Flac files .

I'd love if Cowon could work on a smartphone project , my phone sounds so bad when I call someone it's horrible, I don't care having music on my phone but why isn't there any phone that has a DAC as great as the J3 and filters for enhancing the quality of the transmiter (hmm... the phone of the one you're calling I mean).
Besides I continue listening to my J3 from 1 to 4 and obviously at the lowest volume my phone is still way too loud .

Screw it, I'm getting the 160gb X7 in black or Barney purple. If I could want and plan to got the ColorFly I can most DEFINITELY get this. At least this has a 4.3" screen, amazingly long battery life, and Cowon's SQ. Cowon FTW!!!

For 2008-era tech I would hope not, especially since the earliest it'll be available in the States is January 2011. I'm guessing Cowon will price it a bit lower since they've generally tried to undercut Apple on price in the States. Really hoped this would have come in a more compact package with tactile buttons. I guess I'll go for the Ipod Classic and forget about upgrading till smartphones start being able to accept 64GB micro SDXC cards.

I'm curious as to why it has the 1GB of flash memory in addition to the HDD....what purpose will that serve?

possibly the firmware is housed there and other possible needed scripts.
