Windows PC Zune software V4.7 now available

Hey all,

Just checked the update feature within Software V4.5 and it found and installed V4.7 on my PC (in Australia) moments ago.

No time to have a detailed look now - main thing was the Zune Device Software stays as 4.5, and the PC software goes to 4.7.

Also the Computers and Devices section now has Windows Phone App Marketplace, advising up to 5 phones per Windows Live ID may be linked.

Couldn't see any important increased codec support (FLAC, MKV etc) in the options settings in V4.7

They will have to multiply this number x5 in the first 2-3 months for customers to start thinking about a serious iOS/Android competitor...

From initial looks (cant d/l any obviously) many of these look like they could have been ZuneHD releases also (Flashlights, Level, Unit conversions etc etc)

...and most of these apps have a bad design (especially their icons). ZuneHD apps look much better generally...

Don't get me wrong, I'm just reporting whats in the marketplace. Ive been very happy with the quality of the ZuneHD free apps - and not at all fussed by the quantity released etc (sure we all like more and more frequently - just ask our wives! lol).

I just can't wait to ditch my blacjack and have both a work WP7 and my Zune....SWEET.

I really hope you can assign any song from your Zune Pass into the ring tone - or stuff recorded off the Sound Recorder app...

Still no flac support there...What are they doing...? A Galaxy S has support for almost every audio format and it works fine.

What Im wondering is if I can link a live account that I have setup as a US address with a wp7 that I buy in Canada...thus getting access to my zune pass account that I have for my zune HD...
Zune pass is not being released in Canada, unlike some European countries...this would effectively let me bypass this nonsense...
Im curious as with a phone they could theoretically tell the phone is not in a country that allows zune pass and block it

I reckon they will block via country data in the phone sim/carrier any access to Zune Pass (for music) when they are released.

The ZuneHD is a niche product. It is not officially released in AUS at all. The fact that I can bypass the "headline" Zune Pass limitations and get my music in Australia via the Zune pass is known by MS and most likely due to the scale - not enforced or tightened. Even with music working OK in AUS with Zune pass - country data is still checked and blocked for TV and Movie rentals/purchases/downloads.

AUS for instance saw no recent announcement with regards to music and Zune pass (ie no official release or deals yet with the record companies). So I can't imagine with the scale of budgeted phone sales MS hope to ship with WP7 that they could even consider having the back-door open for a music subscription service based on a US deal on an AUS release product.

So - I expect that WP7 DRM will restrict my Zune Pass to only playing owned content (not Zune Pass subscription music). If they close down the ZuneHD access they have previously left open as well - I will be dirty !

The ZUNEHD and Zune pass combined deliver the VP I was looking for in my music device....

Time will tell.

Wrong.
McDonalds and BurgerKing both make burgers, but they are different.
Yes Zune has a flashlight, but only it's function is common.
And yes Zune has a spirit level, but my ZHD Spirit Level kicks the WP7 ones ass :P

I get the same. They launched the phone marketplace but the Zune's is still FUBAR.

I think this update was introduced for the implementation WP7 marketplace...I don't see any change for Zune...

It got my language changed, the software one, luckily not the one on the device.

I think they still updating their servers. WP7 marketplace should have 2,000 apps by launch date.

Have that also. Going to keep the Zune HD not sync with the computer for a day or so...

If you click on one of the top row it pops up ok... Must be a glitch.

I thought they were getting rid of Microsoft Points when WP7 came out, so I eagerly checked the marketplace on the new software and was disappointed to still see Microsoft Points Only WP7 apps are in actual currency

So I see pictures are separated by their folders, but the videos section is STILL just one large clusterf*** of all my share video directories dumped into one big collection of thumbnails that is impossible to sort through.

Please tell me there's an option that I'm missing! and no, having to manually tag all my videos to sort into TV,Music,Movies,Other,Personal doesn't cut it. It should be just like the Pictures section, separated by subfolders.
