Challenge! Design and create an ABi/RB theme for Fuze....

The title says it all. I am inspired to make this challenge after seeing the ABi background for another device.

We definitely have some folks here with some RB theme skills.

I say it is high time for this - I would do it myself, but the only code I know is zip and area.

What a great idea ! I'm surprised nobody has thought of this before. I would be more than happy to create one myself...except I can't because I am not a good graphics artist, and don't know the theme code for RB. I'm sure there are many people on this forum who are capable of creating one though.

I'm a terrible graphics artist, but that didn't stop me from creating one!

I'd say everyone can code a theme, even non-coders. So don't shy away from trying it. Once you get used to the cryptic acronyms of the theme code you will be able to read it like a book.

The only things you need are patience, the Rockbox manual, a good text editor (e.g. http://notepad-plus-plus.org) and Rockbox Simulator for testing: http://rasher.dk/rockbox/simulator.

I can recommend paint.net as a simple and elegant image editing software: http://www.getpaint.net

So I found the icon from that background maker for the Zune HD, but I read somewhere that someone got permission to use it. Do I need permission?

The hardest part is getting into it, as always, especially if you never coded before. That said the Rockbox theme code does not have much in common with more powerful general-purpose programming languages like "C" (which Rockbox is written in), so the learning curve isn't that steep. And you can start by modifying an existing theme, this way you will grasp the underlying concepts faster.

Of course I don't want to talk you into doing something you don't want to do.

here's what i use all day.
it's dfkt's clip theme, the bar at the top i moved to the bottom, and since the fuze's screen offers more space, i seperated the lines a bit.
and now i made it to an abi theme as well
