Their battery life is similar running the SanDisk firmware, but with Rockbox the difference is much more pronounced, in favor of the V2.

I thought the battery life on my v1 was much better than the v2, both running standard Sansa firmware.

v2 battery life, stock Fuze, using HQ LAME files yielded me around 22 hours battery bench, real world around 18+ hours.

v2 battery life, Rockboxed Fuze, using HQ LAME files yielded me around 21h39m battery bench, real world also around 18+ hours.

As far as I know, no way, under either stock firmware or Rockbox can a v1 Fuze match v2 Fuze battery times.

If you have a v1 Fuze that can better these times, you got a happy mutant device on your hands - good for you

My dad has a RB'd Fuze v1, and I have a RB'd Fuze v2....and I can say that w/Rockbox, the battery life is better on my v2, but without Rockbox, well for the v1 I think its about as advertised but I can't really say for my v2 since I never used the SanDisk firmware for that long when Rockbox saved my life ....

No the v2 hardware is newer and more efficient. The v1 will never match the battery life of the v2 in either the sansa firmware or rockbox.

I don't think you can conclude that from the numbers on that page, but yes the OF is awful for anything but MP3. I think mp3 is the only decoder they optimized at all.

Most of my collection is ripped in Vorbis. The last couple of days I've been deliberatey listening only to MP3's on my Fuze (mosty Amazon downloads). It makes a huge difference in battery life.

And rockbox won't help much since battery life on the V1 is low for some unknown reason. I guess you're out of luck, at least until someone figures out why rockbox wastes so much power on the Fuze v1.
