and you never even considered that they might have been overwhelmed by the demand for an affordable ipod touch/zune hd clone that is not made by apple/microsoft and on top of that has roughly stock android (2.2.1) on board?

no? well i'm pretty that's what happened. cause the 32 and the 28 are still available, nobody likes those too much, they are just too restricted, whereas 43 through 101 are out of stock.

adding to that, demand for such displays is rather high, and manufacturer's capacities can't be increased within days, not even weeks. rather months.

I believe Apple has joined with Sharp to build a new LCD plant. This HAS to be to meet growing demand for all things tablet sized. Given the expanding rate of consumption of these devices, I think buying some stock in Sharp may be a good idea. Heck, buy some stock in GLASS!

Your probably right=\ I just figured they would have some idea from preorders and be ready for the demand. I'm just really wanting a new pmp but I want something with android thats affordable.

I'll guess phones get priority for LCD shipments as they are far more profitable. The 43 is within a 3G chip of being a phone. It's a shame Archos can't make them as fast as the demand wants.

Places are starting to show the 43 as available for order and they all show not in stock and ships directly from the manufacturer. Not sure if this means they have been told they will be getting a shipment in the next few weeks or if they are speculating. The way some companies do things is once the stock is put in the shipping container and put on the boat, they will start selling it like this, so it might mean the next shipment is ready to leave the harbor. I'm still torn between the 32 and the 43 and won't really make up my mind until I actually pay for one or the other.

Archos store still says notify me unless they only had them for a single day since I know I checked last night and again just now. And they never did notify me.

The Archos store had some, for about 1/2 hour. I know of a few people who actually were able to order one, then it flipped back. Every relative forum posted news of it, so it doesn't surprise me they ran out so quickly.

What does suprise me is that they can't make enough to keep up. It is almost as if they are running a marketing experiement. Maintain high demand by controlling low supply.

archos aren't new to the game. i tell you, they were overwhelmed by demand. every major gadget site had one or two articles on the new product line and pricing is a major driving force. the archos have an appealing set of features (well the 32 and above, i guess) for very small cost in comparison and it's not apple. lots of people are hooked by android as well.

i say, they aren't able to satisfy demand, simply because they didn't anticipate it.
