I think it is a processor shortage, it has been damn difficult to get ARM processors of any flavor for other things. I assume they are dedicating manufacture to the processors used in phones since they are a much higher demand item than any other device. I assume you stand in line for 10,000 processors and it certainly doesn't take long to sell those products on a world wide scale.

Or as mentioned it could be price fixing, choke supply so that demand stays high so you can keep the price high.

CDW has the 8gb version listed as in stock for $106. This has to be a mistake. I have a feeling it's really the 43 vision, not the 43 IT. Still a little tempting to place an order, as they might honor your order for a 43 IT and send the 16gb version.

I ordered one from Amazon, but it was lost in shipping and never arrived. I canceled the order this morning after waiting an additional period of time requested by Amazon. The price dropped $30.00 between the time I ordered it and now. At this point I have had very bad luck with Archos and I'm going to wait for the Samsung Galaxy S4 Wifi to be released in the US.

If you're ready to shell out $350+ (my estimate).

i would still go for the archos, although you might have to wait a little longer.
and it seems to be available now(on the archos site and at amazon). you won't get that much of a feature packed android device for $220 right now.

I appreciate your advice; however there are just too many complaints about the responsiveness of the Archos 43 screen.

well, what are you expecting? it's resistive. people complain about that all the time. "my ipod touch is much much better and responsive, i will never buy an archos again". you get what you pay for.

also, i have read and seen from multiple reviews and hands-on that they are surprised of the responsiveness, some even commented that they believed it to be capacitive at first (i think it was engadget and they are no fools).

i'd ask dfkt how he feels about this, he has the 32 atm and it should be a similar experience (well actually not as good as on a 4.3" obviously). you can trust dfkt on his verdict.

If you compare the 43's screen with an ipod touch screen or any AMOLED screen device then the 43's screen will appear to be the poorest one there. It is a backlit LCD screen, aka old but reliable tech. Using one, with no other devices to compare to, is fine. The screen is the most sensitive resistive screen I've yet seen. You can tap or touch, with finger pad or fingernail. The UI beneath is more responsive than most, and the same as on the 32 or 70 tablet.

Add that the 43 is a bargain relative to the Touch or Cowon D3, and the old tech screen can easily be forgiven. It does NOT make the 43 a poorer value than the 32.
