I recant my prior statement. This actually has me interested, as it will work with a portable battery pack. Plus it's a beast when it comes to other daps in the output power area. I've done a 180, I admit it, I want the FiiO X3!!! So sue me,...

PS: I'm tds101 on head-fi. I'm a FiiO fanboi now,...

Does anybody know when this is supposed to hit the US market? I'm trying to find an inexpensive solution for listening to my 24-bit recordings, and I do not want to go back to an iPod (which will play up to 48/24 ALAC) or Apple products.

Sometime in June, I think.....

The man in charge of FiiO just posted these pics of the internals of the X3 over at Head-Fi....and this was his comment above the photos....

BTW, someone asked me to provide the photos of the PCBA of our X3, I think the best way is post in here to so you don't need to disassemble your X3 and lost the warranty.

Hey all!

Sorry I haven't been on in a while, been climbing the corporate ladder lately.

So this FiiO player, eh? Seems cool, sounds good(according to specs), but looks so ugly... The questions is it worth carrying a good sounding player that looks this hideous?

I couldn't care what a player looked like as long as it ticked the right box for me.
I gave up on my galaxy s2 to go with nokia 808 because it does the stuff i want better despite it looking far far less sexy.

Man, it's gorgeous! I love the retro design. I get a Toshiba Gigabeat F-series feel from the X3.

I too like the design, the controls look like they might be a bit counter intuitive, would probably have preferred a D pad or summin.
I like the idea of a good basic DAP, up to 72gb is great, might it even take a 128gb card one day? But man 10-15hrs is still clip+ level of juice which then begs the question, what is this doing significantly better than a rockboxed clip? If it had 50hrs battery life etc then that's a different story.

When is this out? Any reviews coming? Price?

I woulda liked a amp/dap hybrid more, like knobs for volume, bass and treble (or buttons) on the player rather than navigating menus to get to bass and treble options.

I see its for sale in my neck of the woods, $240.. ouchy

Also came across this fella, anyone seen/heard of this?

In the US places like B&H are taking preorders for it for $200. Shipping to Australia would not be cheap. The Australian dollar is down to 0.8892 US, so $200 US =$224.92 AU.

The X3 has a very high power headphone amp built in, so it will drive almost any headphones. If only they had made it as a convertible, with 50+ hours of battery life in a low power output mode, or 11 hours of battery life in a high power output mode.

Ah, sweet nostalgia. What a great player! I can kinda see that, but still, I wish that some one would put out a stylish, yet innovative player like the Zune HD, Cowon J3 or even the iRiver Spinn. They all had a great look and feel to them.

But Banner is right. That's why I drive a 90 volvo wagon instead of a shiny new two door.
