does anybody know when the 32gb version of the galaxy player yp-gb1 will be released in korea? i see on samsung uk's website that the galaxy 4.0 will come in a 32gb size, and samsung said back in jan. at ces that the galaxy player in korea will come in 8gb, 16gb and 32gb sizes.
and has anybody used winamp on android? does it have a possible library size limitation? and about the price in korea. in korea we can always negotiate the price with the merchant and get a better price than the "street price" you see quoted on the net. so i'm pretty sure the price will fall in korea after a couple of months or the price is high so that people can "negotiate for a lower price". edit: never mind my first question, i just found the 32gb version on gmarket. if gmarket has it online, then i can get it in the stores too. the 32gb version is on gmarket for 529,000 won ($483.95). http://english.gmarket.co.kr/challen...d_order=yp-gb1 http://english.gmarket.co.kr/challen...d_order=yp-gb1 for a price comparison between the samsung galaxy player and an ipod touch in korea. galaxy player 8gb - 389,000 won (346.83) 16gb player - 449,000 won ($440.33) 32gb - 529,000 won ($471.66) http://english.gmarket.co.kr/challen...keyword=yp-gb1 ipod touch 8gb - 319,000 won (284.42) 32gb - 429,000 won ($382.50) 64gb - 569,000 won ($507.32) http://store.apple.com/kr/browse/hom...mco=OTY2ODA1Nw currency conversion done on: http://www.oanda.com/currency/converter/ Last edited by djloekee27; 03-23-2011 at 02:12 AM. |

Really? Someone seriously deleted my post because I said the player was too expensive? Wow.

Anyone know what the GPS capabilities of the YP-G1 will be? It has a GPS chip and Google Maps but without 3G will that provide on-the-move hand-held navigation away from a Wifi zone?

Interesting. I see the latest version of Google Maps Mobile has some offline capability - i.e. to cache maps on the device rather than to download them on demand - so we'll have to see. Basically I would like the GPS to tell me where I am at any time on a previously downloaded map of a city while I'm out of a Wifi zone.

For now I can tell you that the performance is heavenly (Galaxy S like of course), the screen is not SAMOLED, but it is SCLCD, which has some insane vewing angles as well as nice popping colors and blacks that beat my iPod touch's to the ground. The loudspeaker is loud and clear enough to fill my dorm room (it has two instead of the single one the Galaxy S phones have), the cameras are bad (3 MP back, VGA front) but that was expected, it can be used to skype as well without any kind of headset and be used just like any phone while at it. The body is well made, but still feels plasticky so get something to cover the player (they gave me a bunch of stuff with it like an android action figure, two screen protectors, three straps for cleaning, one nice color changing case, and more). Oh yeah, and grab another battery, since the 1200 mAh is not enough. The sound quality is very good (except for some system noise and hiss that can be heard here and there), with a few presets, two costum EQs, a plethora of 3D and upscaler settings, and good volume levels (just be sure to tell the thing you're not in the US). The headphones that come with the device, even when they are noise isolating and don't tangle at all, SUCK. Please keep in mind that as far as audio quality goes I have only been able to test it with the small and inexpensive headphones I brought with me for the semester (Audio-Technica ATH-EM7, Sony MDR-NC7, Sennheiser CX 300-II, AKG K403, and tried with some of my friends': Bose Quiet Comfort 3, Koss Porta-Pro, and Sennheiser HD 202 with very similar results). As a side note, I haven't had any single problem with the playlists and music recognition by the device other than the fact that it can't read my lossless WMA (yeah...I still have a few of those haha) but the rest of my FLAC, AAC, and MP3s have no problem at all and their tags are recognized without an issue. One big dowside is the application limitation (other than the no games for Android in South Korea thing). Since it is not a phone, a lot of applications simply won't even appear as an option in the Android market...but we know that's nothing we can't work around, right? |

I have been following this site http://www.samsung.com/global/microsite/galaxyswifi using changedetection.com and looks like they have updated the site. Looks like the long wait is about to come to an end (hopefully very soon).
http://www.samsung.com/global/micros...ification.html Galaxy S WIFI 4 (YP-GB1) Specs on their site: Quote:
..Highlighted some interesting things: 1. Froyo seems to be the OS preinstalled (but we knew that already) 2. It looks like there will be no 32GB version... Hope I'm wrong..3. Battery life 4 hours less than iPod touch 4's "stated' (40 hours) guess the larger screen is the cause. Hopefully we will get the full 36 hours... 4. It says camera has flash!...This is new info...hopefully its not a typo p.s Looking forward to your review too, ark_v2 and good luck in your exams too, mine also start very soon. Good spot. I see the
HK website also now has details and even a Shop Now button (but no stockists yet, so far as I can see). Edit: Apparently camera flash is present only on the 5-inch model. Last edited by gadg17; 04-27-2011 at 04:12 AM. |

Wow
Lame, I think I'll just buy a frigging iPod if the prices are universal. I hope this MP3 player comes out before end of June. I can't wait any longer, my music collection is getting larger thanks to last.fm, soon this clip+ won't be able to hold everything. Last edited by arreat89; 05-18-2011 at 03:13 PM. |

I'd love to try one out. First one to post a link to a seller (U.S.) with some for sale and in stock wins my enduring love and affection.

Ohhh and to think, I was just about ready to get a Ipod touch since there isn't anything else out there that I liked in android besides these. I guess I can wait 2 weeks and see what happens!
Finally some info on these coming to sale! |
