does anybody know when the 32gb version of the galaxy player yp-gb1 will be released in korea? i see on samsung uk's website that the galaxy 4.0 will come in a 32gb size, and samsung said back in jan. at ces that the galaxy player in korea will come in 8gb, 16gb and 32gb sizes.

and has anybody used winamp on android? does it have a possible library size limitation?

and about the price in korea. in korea we can always negotiate the price with the merchant and get a better price than the "street price" you see quoted on the net. so i'm pretty sure the price will fall in korea after a couple of months or the price is high so that people can "negotiate for a lower price".

edit: never mind my first question, i just found the 32gb version on gmarket. if gmarket has it online, then i can get it in the stores too. the 32gb version is on gmarket for 529,000 won ($483.95).

Really? Someone seriously deleted my post because I said the player was too expensive? Wow.

Anyone know what the GPS capabilities of the YP-G1 will be? It has a GPS chip and Google Maps but without 3G will that provide on-the-move hand-held navigation away from a Wifi zone?

Interesting. I see the latest version of Google Maps Mobile has some offline capability - i.e. to cache maps on the device rather than to download them on demand - so we'll have to see. Basically I would like the GPS to tell me where I am at any time on a previously downloaded map of a city while I'm out of a Wifi zone.

Yes, it has offline cache and you don't need to use crazy map applications or PC software to store the tiles, as well as a REAL GPS that has been a life saviour in Seoul (LOL). That's how I use it the most. I'm studying in South Korea and got the 16 GB one (as well as an 8 GB external microSD). After midterms (next week or so) I'll post a complete review of the Galaxy Player YP-GB1 with videos and pictures.

For now I can tell you that the performance is heavenly (Galaxy S like of course), the screen is not SAMOLED, but it is SCLCD, which has some insane vewing angles as well as nice popping colors and blacks that beat my iPod touch's to the ground. The loudspeaker is loud and clear enough to fill my dorm room (it has two instead of the single one the Galaxy S phones have), the cameras are bad (3 MP back, VGA front) but that was expected, it can be used to skype as well without any kind of headset and be used just like any phone while at it. The body is well made, but still feels plasticky so get something to cover the player (they gave me a bunch of stuff with it like an android action figure, two screen protectors, three straps for cleaning, one nice color changing case, and more). Oh yeah, and grab another battery, since the 1200 mAh is not enough.

The sound quality is very good (except for some system noise and hiss that can be heard here and there), with a few presets, two costum EQs, a plethora of 3D and upscaler settings, and good volume levels (just be sure to tell the thing you're not in the US). The headphones that come with the device, even when they are noise isolating and don't tangle at all, SUCK. Please keep in mind that as far as audio quality goes I have only been able to test it with the small and inexpensive headphones I brought with me for the semester (Audio-Technica ATH-EM7, Sony MDR-NC7, Sennheiser CX 300-II, AKG K403, and tried with some of my friends': Bose Quiet Comfort 3, Koss Porta-Pro, and Sennheiser HD 202 with very similar results).

As a side note, I haven't had any single problem with the playlists and music recognition by the device other than the fact that it can't read my lossless WMA (yeah...I still have a few of those haha) but the rest of my FLAC, AAC, and MP3s have no problem at all and their tags are recognized without an issue.

One big dowside is the application limitation (other than the no games for Android in South Korea thing). Since it is not a phone, a lot of applications simply won't even appear as an option in the Android market...but we know that's nothing we can't work around, right?

Exclamation Looks like its actually coming guys

I have been following this site http://www.samsung.com/global/microsite/galaxyswifi using changedetection.com and looks like they have updated the site. Looks like the long wait is about to come to an end (hopefully very soon).

http://www.samsung.com/global/micros...ification.html

Galaxy S WIFI 4 (YP-GB1) Specs on their site:
Quote:
Specification
Display
4.0” WVGA Super Clear LCD
Dimensions
123.7 x 64.2 x 9.9 (mm)
Playing time
Audio 36Hrs / Video 5Hrs (Battery Capacity : 1,200mAh)
OS
Android 2.2 Froyo
Memory
8/16GB+ MicroSD (Up to 32GB)
Video
MPEG4, H.264, WMV, DivX/XviD (Up to HD)
Speaker
Stereo (1.3W)
Music
Music Player with SoundAliveTM/ MP3/ WMA/ WAV/ OGG/ AAC/FLAC
Camera
Front : VGA Back : 3.2M AF (With Flash)
Connectivity
Wifi(802.11 b/g/n), All Share Support, Bluetooth 3.0
Some of us may have seen those specs already but I posted it anyways ..

Highlighted some interesting things:
1. Froyo seems to be the OS preinstalled (but we knew that already)
2. It looks like there will be no 32GB version... Hope I'm wrong..
3. Battery life 4 hours less than iPod touch 4's "stated' (40 hours) guess the larger screen is the cause. Hopefully we will get the full 36 hours...
4. It says camera has flash!...This is new info...hopefully its not a typo

p.s Looking forward to your review too, ark_v2 and good luck in your exams too, mine also start very soon.

Good spot. I see the
HK website also now has details and even a Shop Now button (but no stockists yet, so far as I can see).

Edit: Apparently camera flash is present only on the 5-inch model.

Wow

Lame, I think I'll just buy a frigging iPod if the prices are universal.

I hope this MP3 player comes out before end of June. I can't wait any longer, my music collection is getting larger thanks to last.fm, soon this clip+ won't be able to hold everything.

Default Some prices released

From Gadgetsholic.com:

Exclamation Galaxy S WIFI 4 & 5up for pre order??

Quote:
Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1, Galaxy S WiFi now up for pre-order
From http://liliputing.com/2011/05/samsun...pre-order.html

Quote:
J&R is also taking pre-orders for the Samsung Galasy S WiFi 4 and 5 inch media devices. These guys are Samsung’s answer to the iPod touch, offering many of the features of an Android smartphone without the 3G or cellular phone capabilities (or the long term service contracts.

The Samsung Galaxy S WiFi 4 has a 4 inch, 800 x 480 pixel display, a 1 GHz Cortex-A8 processor, 8GB of storage, 512MB of RAM, WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS, front and rear cameras and a 1200mAh battery. The device ships with Google Andorid 2.2. J&R is taking pre-orders for $229.

The Samsung Galaxy S WiFi 5 has a larger 5 inch display with the same 800 x 480 pixel resolution. Most of the other specs are the same, but this model has a higher capacity 2500mAh battery. J&R is taking pre-orders for $269.99.
Seems as if J&R took them down.

These are the google cache versions:

Good news is, Samsung's own webpage is featuring the YP-G1CW at the 229 price. It's not for sale, but at least the MSRP is locked down, now. Priced just right:

I'd love to try one out. First one to post a link to a seller (U.S.) with some for sale and in stock wins my enduring love and affection.

Ohhh and to think, I was just about ready to get a Ipod touch since there isn't anything else out there that I liked in android besides these. I guess I can wait 2 weeks and see what happens!

Finally some info on these coming to sale!
