MS are working on approved/certified cards. WP7 treats the expanded memory and the internal memory as JBOD - and adding an expansion card resets the device (ie formats). If the card does not have a good enough random access (read) speed - your Focus may become unusable. Unfortunately card standards only rate write speeds, not read speeds.

Unfortunately card standards only rate write speeds, not read speeds.

Depends on which rating system is used. Sandisk's Class rating is minimum sustained read/write speeds. A class 2 must have a minimum sustained read/write of 2MB/sec (megabytes). SD's first party cards always meet or exceed their advertised spec. The two 32GB cards I bought from them recently do fairly well. One reads at 12MB, and writes at 5MB. The other seems to read at 5 and write at 3.

The other spec is from 3rd partys, and they use speed ratings similar to CD-ROMs (IE, 1x = 150kb/sec). So, 13x = Class 2, in theory. However, this rating is PEAK read speed, and has nothing to do with writes. A Class 2 will kill a 13x card. So while my first SD reads at 12MB/s, SD calls that a Class 2, while a 3rd party might label that as a 150x.

Also, I love how Microsoft handles expandable storage. I wish Android would give you that option, IE;

-When performing a factory reset, do you want to integrate your MicroSD? If so, you get a warning stating that the card can not be hotswapped, or unmounted to be used as removable storage (USB drive). The benefit is that you no longer would have app storage issues. If My Incredible would allow this with the integrated and SD storage, I'd have 40GB for everything.

NP Medion - thanks for the note above. I've enjoyed ABI as I researched, purchased and then used my Zune HD (taking a lot of info from the knowledge present from this group - and MS contributors like Dave).

I'm pretty passionate about WP7 - and have read up pretty widely on it, so happy to share anything I can (mostly other people's work anyways lol)
