They're really churning them out, huh I'll be interested in see how much fast the song changes will be as it seemed that was one of the slower aspects of the player.

I'm convinced any company's first attempt at android should be avoided. Archos is an example. Their first android tablets are regrettable. The Gen8s are the best I've seen from anyone so far. Given what I've read about Cowon's D3 it appears to be following that pattern exactly.

If they upgrade Android from 2.1 to 2.2, that alone would probably improve the player by a lot.

BUT, archos fucked up tremendously on the software part AND then didn't change anything about it. they kind of abandoned ship, which is not a nice thing to do for a device that's been around barely a year or two. also android 1.5/6 is sluggish as hell even on smart phones of that era.

Cowon on the other hand has already supplied 2 (or 3?) firmware upgrades that apparently fixed/alleviated some major issues within a months' time.

that's a feat archos has to earn themselves, though it looks as if the success of the gen 8 devices will take care of that deficiency. you can tell that the prior products were shelf warmers. (but that didn't stop charbax "selling" those devices as if he was an archos pimp)

Archos knows the gen8s have the right guts, and they also have updated them several times since they came out. Charbox gets anything Archos makes for free it seems, and I would rank any device I got for free higher than it would deserve if I'd paid for it. As such I decline offers of free products.

The downloadable firmware files are zips. Are they copied whole to the D3 to update the D3, or do they have to be unpacked then copied? Most android devices I have are updated with one file copied to the device, although that one file is always an archive file with more than one file inside.
