So MS posted a couple of days ago that it had identified the mysterious source of the "excessive data consumption" app - and that it was a 3rd party app. They refused to point the finger - preferring to state they were working with the 3rd party to resolve.
Reports now beginning to surface that it may have been Yahoo Mail. Zdnet blog reporting here: http://tinyurl.com/4caqnlg http://www.mobiletechworld.com/2011/...-is-the-cause/ Can anyone here experiencing the issue report if they have Yahoo Mail on their WP7 handset ? Does removing it see any improvement in logged daily data consumption ?

Listening to Windows Weekly (video) podcast, Paul Thurott noted this problem on his phone in the past, and posted graphs showing his data "usage" on his Windows Phone Secrets blog. The latest podcast yesterday, he mentioned that he thought it was possibly the Facebook app, but wasn't sure. I don't think he uses Yahoo mail.
Here's a couple of his blog posts: http://windowsphonesecrets.com/2011/...december-2010/ http://windowsphonesecrets.com/2011/...a-usage-found/ |

Given how closely MS have worked with Facebook (eg People Hub integration) I just can't see the Facebook App being responsible.
Anyways - time will tell. I'm not seeing any mysteriously high data usage - or issues with WiFi switching to cellular, so I'm a happy chappy

Latest update:
Web now reporting that Yahoo Mail is the data culprit with WP7: http://windowsphone7central.com/news...g-01-31-11.php From windowsphonesecrets: "Yahoo is sending ~25 times as much data as it needs to. (This can also be read as: Your phone is downloading ~25 times as much data as it normally would, had you sided with another email provider." ouch!
