I was playing an m4a podcast earlier and the player shutdown and wouldn't turn on. i held down power for 30 seconds and was able to get it to turn on. it did this about 5 times in a row when trying to play file again. since converted the file to mp3 and it seems fine. could this really be just a codec problem? or is it a hardware problem that will recur eventually?

My .m4a files are playing OK. Are you using the build you compiled or the current build? There's been some work done recently on the .aac codec that may or may not relate to your problem. If it's not the current build I'd try that. If you still have the problem with the current build I'd head over to the Rockbox forums and ask there.

Did it work when you updated from 3.7.1? If not, please post a bug report on the tracker with a link to the file so that someone can take a look at it.

3.71 is the stable Rockbox build. Thats called the release build. There are several builds issued every day. That's the current build. I believe that's what saratoga was asking.
If you are using the older 3.71 release build it's possible that the problem has been corrected in the hundreds of builds that have occurred since then. If not you should file a bug report.

Yes, 3.7.x was branched in October, so its fairly old. Before reporting bugs, its very helpful if you can try the current build (as in one from today). Otherwise someone else will have to verify that your bug hasn't already been fixed.
