Zen creative X-FI 2 on copyrighted music? question*

Hi guys,

My previous zen creative mp3 player, (the original first one) is really old now, so I want to buy zen, and I thought the "Creative Zen X-FI 2" would be great new mp3. But before buying, I do have a few questions;

This is what the FAQ says on the Zen Creative X-FI 2:
Why do error messages appear when I load copy-protected music to my player?
Your player supports Windows Media DRM (WMDRM) 9 content. Music files that use other forms of copy protection cannot be transferred or played on your player. Some content from online music stores may not be loaded to portable devices, or there may be a limit on the number of transfers. For details, contact your online music store."
So I was wondering, does this mean I can't put music on the mp3 that I downloaded with torrents? I mean I have a big libary of music and it'd mean a great deal to me if buying this mp3 means I cant put the music I have at the moment on the mp3.

DRM copy protection can come with MP3s from some online stores. MP3s you've ripped yourself or downloaded from freely distributed non-copyrighted torrents shouldn't have any protection and the X-Fi2 will play them without problems, as any other MP3player for that matter.

Thanks alot man, but I'm not sure whether it's "freely distributed non-copyrighted torrents" or what that means, I mean I also download songs from artists like eminem does that mean anything?

Generally, if it's a torrent, there won't be any DRM unless the torrent is from a genuine music reseller which utilizes DRM protection, but those don't use torrents I believe so that can be disregarded. What artist a song is from is quite irrelevant, it's the source of the file itself which matters.

But as Brett said, music you rip yourself or music from non-copyrighted torrents should be good to go. (Keep in mind that downloading copyrighted music is illegal, hence why we stress the importance of non-copyrighted music)
