Is 755 really worth double the price premium over 545 in my case? All I want is a simple, good-sounding mp3 player. I don't care about videos or podcasts or any other gimmicks. Whatcha guys say?

The S755 has noise-canceling earphones and some rather fancy tech inside of it, so that's why it's more expensive for the same capacity.
The S545, on the other hand, will do almost all of what the S755 offers (and a bit more, like the external speakers) at less cost to you. So, I'd suggest the S545. It's not as high-end as the S755, but for everyday use, it's more than good enough. Enjoy it, I had one and wish i had kept it for myself (gave it to my sister so she didn't spend any money on an iPod Nano). |

One thing about living in the UK is that the S754/5 series is cheaper than the old S545 series was, and cheaper than the 'budget' E series which costs twice what it does in the US for some unfathomable reason.
I got the S754 - I love it. nearly all metal, tru-black display, playlists and 50 hours battery life. I prefer it to the clearance A845 I got (newer models of the A must be coming out): http://www.anythingbutipod.com/forum...ad.php?t=62082 |

But what if herzzreh lives outside the UK? That could really limit his options. |

I'm not sure why, but Sony's E models are just twice the price over here - well over £100 for a 16Gb versus $70 or so in the US.
Their new S are quite bit cheaper than the E for far more features while the S545 has disappeared here. I never tried out the 545 but I'd say go for the 755 even if it's more expensive where the OP is. |

That must be some sort of Europe versus North America thing, because we have lots of S540s and E350s here, and next to no S750s.
To make it worse, our S545s are running at $150 CAN and the E355 are on sale for $100 CAN, normally at $130 CAN. The S754s are $120 CAN, but they don't offer the S755. The A- and X-series aren't offered by Sony anywhere at all. |

Well, my Sansa Clip+ crapped out... just picked up 16gb S545 for $95, same capacity S755 sells for over $200 on the net. Don't care for the headphones that come bundled, so it was a no-brainer.

The same player here costs $150. Even when it's on sale, it's still still over $120.
You got a good deal, there. I'm glad to see my choice won!

Podcast support and SenseMe channels, IIRC.

If I was living in the US or Canada then it would be a no-brainer getting an E or the S545 over newer models.
I don't get Sony's international marketing strategy - why so few (or none) newer S and A models in N. America. |

That may not be that far from the truth, actually.
I once talked to someone at a Best Buy (yes, I know... a BB employee knowing what he's talking about? ) and they said pretty much the same thing. Samsung doesn't sell anyof their players in Canada at all, and Sony only offers some of theirs, because apparently Apple has too much of a market share here. Everyone else just decided it wasn't worth it and pulled out. Thanks for sticking around, Sony. At least you got more balls than Samsung Canada does. |
