Default Album title and song title conundrum

Using the latest Clip+ firmware, song and album titles are arranged by whatever I have named them using mp3 tag. But whenever I play a song using rockbox, the name of the album, artist and song does appear correctly on the now playing screen but browsing the library of music means sifting through songs arranged by filename. Fixing the album folder issue isn't that time consuming. Retagging over nearly three thousand songs is.

I hope the following screenshot makes sense if the above hasn't...

Help appreciated.

Are you aware that you can browse by tags in rockbox if you use the database rather then the file browser?

You seem to have the artist name in the album title field, that might lead to some confusion as well.

I always prefix the album title with the artist it's by!

Save me from making another thread, would I be right in assuming you have to shut the player down before charging it when you've got rockbox, in order for the drives to show up on My Computer?

That's what I have to do, but it reverts to the Clip+ original display, but turning it off and then back on again restores it to rockbox. Is this normal?

This is normal. USB was disabled for, I believe, stability reasons. There's a custom patch that enables USB, though, and if you really want to have USB in Rockbox now you can download a custom build from this thread.

I understand. However, I tend to agree with dfkt here. Doing the ID3 tags like you are, with the ARTIST field and also the artist name as part of the ALBUM field could cause confusion on some players...

I assume you wish to have the ARTIST field be the first item in your filename for your music? If yes, you can easily do this via MP3Tag.

Use and tag/save the following fields:
e.g.:
Artist - Opeth
Album - Ghost Reveries
Title - Ghost Of Perdition
Track - 01
Year - 2005
Genre - Progressive Rock
mp3 type

Then select all and right click under mp3tag and select CONVERT>TAG to FILENAME to result in this filename [which you can modify as you wish]:

Opeth - Ghost Reveries - 01 - Ghost Of Perdition.mp3

Apologies if you know this and I have misunderstood what you are trying to do with the ARTIST name repeated in the ALBUM field.

cheers and good luck,
-les

lestatar, that’s how I’ve been doing it but I use the little shortcut button (tag-file name) under tools which gives the same in the filename field (%artist% - %album% - $num(%track%,2) - %title%), now just to finish the other half of my collection :/ BTW I too agree with dfkt and you, only issues and confusion can come from that.
