Mp3 players lose much value over months and years except some of them because they are very famous and still appreciated (Cowon X5 etc)

A Samsung K5 is an old model (2006) and has objectively no value (probably €$20-40 depending on the memory capacity and the condition) but some buyers may be ready to pay more for it because it is one of the only mp3 players with a good quality built-in speaker ever made.

I found a Samsung YH-J70 (20 GB) on eBay, at 95 euro.
Is it worth it ?
... and how is the sound, compared to the P3 ?
(I'd like to add a hdd classic player to my collection)

Subjectively, the YH-J70 is the best mp3 player ever made (beating the Cowon X5)

That's said, objectively, €95 is a bit too much for the 20GB version I guess. Would be alright for the (rare) 30GB model. And the battery is probably almost dead now so you would probably have to buy a new battery if you want to use it everyday.
The flat sound is excellent, at least as good as on the P3 for sure. The headphone output is very clean (no hiss). But the old SRS-WOW HD effects suck compared to DNSe 3.0 on P3. Fortunately there is an effective 9 band user EQ

You can watch my video on youtube (the only video about this player on youtube):

It's difficult to tell you if it is worth it. It's worth it for collectors and nostalgic people like me but for the others...I'm not sure. HDD are fragile compared to NAND flash, the player is big and the battery probably has to be replaced.

One could probably put a CF or SSD in it, like in the other HDD players of yesteryear. That is, if Samsung didn't use some special file system or other tricky stuff.

Thumb Up

Merci et Danke for the info

After seeing the video, I want it even more
(the seller sais it's new, wich means the HDD is ok but I guess the battery is almost dead anyway)
And I really like the idea of the CF card , and also the USB host.
I'm getting paid on friday, so I'll see then what's what

Edit: Sorry for messing someone else's thread
