iPod Touch 8gb $229.
When Amazon had them for sale a couple of weeks ago, they had he 4" 8gb version at $229. I think $269 is too high, personally. Yes, I know it has better features than a Touch, but I don't think the U.S. consumer will think it is worth the price difference.

Considering the micro SD expandability I think it's a better device than an iPod touch. But, as Olley has said, the average person will avoid it due to the higher pricing. Also, the iPod is a well known brand, and the Galaxy label is much newer. I hope the things sell like wildfire tho,... I, personally, miss the HELL out of having Samsung electronic toys to play with (I just wasn't fond of the Galaxy Tab, not my cup of tea).

$269 for a 16gb version would be less bad, and something Apple doesn't sell. I don't see any reason to have a 8gb device given a big screen (movies), HDMI out (movies) and and app store right on the player. Apps don't take much room each, but they are cheap and add up. A couple of full length movies on an 8gb player and you're running out of room.

So you want a smaller version that will cost you almost as much as you paid for the Tab? Seems a bit silly to me.
My thoughts on the pricing are the same as Machiventa's.

I've ordered a cheap Zune HD 64gb instead, paired w/a Digiziod ZO - so I'm not getting either Galaxy Player as of yesterday. I do want to try 1 out, but that's about it really. Besides, I'll be quite frank here - I DESPISE android. I like WP7, and I like certain things about the Zune. I'm feeling the little bass booster I ordered will make the Z:HD worth it for me now. Plus, I actually want an HD radio - this gives me a multifunction device.

I think anyone who buys this would automatically buy a microSD card along with it,so the internal memory isn't that bad to me.

I didn't see this earlier... but I think that if you tack on a 32GB microSDHC card, it would be reasonable and not easily beat. Definitely a better value than an iPod, but I don't think anyone will see that without digging, and god knows the US is lazy...

Default Apparently the engadget article is refering to the 5 inch player

While scrolling through the comments of this engadget article, I found that a so-called "Sam Armstrong" claims this is the 5" version which is priced at $270 and not the 4" version which will be priced at $225 (see attached picture).
If this is in fact the case, the Samsung Galaxy S wifi 4.0 (or whatever they end up calling it in the U.S) will be a great competitor to the 8GB iPod touch and worthy of my money.
