Removing scratches on a ZVM screen

Greetings fellow ZVM owners,

I love my ZVM and much the same as many comments I have read from other abi participants, I would NEVER givie it up for an i-anything!

That being said, I'm just wondering if anyone has a practical sollution for removing and / or buffing out the light scratches that have developed on my screen throughout the 5+ years of useage.

Apple Polish sold at any Apple Store,online store & other places as well. If they are really just light scratches use a screen protector instead. To really get out scratches you would need to take the player apart so you won't damage the LCD screen from the pressure you will need to apply for removing them.

Hello and welcome to ABI (not really sure if I'm supposed to say that, as I am a fellow newcomer, but hey)! While I am not a ZVM owner, I know two methods that work well for removing scratches and, since the ZVM screen is just a common screen, they'll probably work for you. One is only for making the scratches appear less deep, good for those really thin scratches that make it hard to read things, and is really easy to do. The other is more effective, but more time consuming.

Method 1: Toothpaste Method:
You'll need:
-Toothpaste
-A piece of cotton, a cotton bud works best
-The damaged screen
-A piece of clean cloth, microfiber works best. In a display of truly outstanding, flawless hygiene, I'll use used underwear

Now, apply a small quantity of toothpaste to the cotton and rub it in a circular motion


Dampen the piece of clean(?) cloth and GENTLY rub it on the DAP and, voilá, scratches diminished



While the results pic chosen isn't exactly flattering for this method, it does make the scratches slightly less visible.

Now, the other, better method takes two days of preparation and, therefore, I believe you'll understand why I won't make a illustrated guide for it. Instead, I'll just send you the link:

PS: Upon further inspection, I realized I actually managed to damage my screen with incredibly thin, almost invisible scratches by using a common piece of cloth instead of microfiber to clean it, so I actually had to redo the entire process with microfiber cleaning cloth to remove them. While this is more of a statement of just how bad the s545 screen is, please don't do the same mistake, use microfiber.

Thank you Coachop94 for the prompt reply! I did a simple search on ebay for "apple polish" and came up with a lot of nail polish results, LOL! I also saw a few listings for a product called "Dr. Bott's iKlear" , alternately listed as KlearScreen which appears to be a three-step polishing process. Do you think this will this work or would I be better off going to an Apple store (Oh the horror!) to get the "real thing" -S

Thank you also Cain! I do have a microfiber cloth which I typically use to clean my HDTV, LCD screen along with a spray I got at staples. I'm thinking that I might as well try the toothpaste technique first as "diminishing" the scraches will probably be fine, being that more than anything it's really an aesthetic issue for me. -S

P.S. thank you for the "EHow" link & yes, the sollution posted seems a bit involved and time consuming. Fortunately, my ZVM screen isn't nearly as scratched up as the illustrated cell phone screen.

Since you are recommending toothpaste I can say that Ultra-Brite is high abrasive as toothpastes go & cheap (usually under a dollar) great for whitening teeth as well
