Guys does the clip zip/clip+ have a lock function? if yes, can you skip tracks or use the volume while its locked?

The only thing that makes me wanna buy the clip+ is that i cant justify the difference in price between the 2. You can buy a brand new clip+ on ebay for 23 gbp but the zip is way too high at around 35-40.

Lock - yes, skip/volume while locked - no. Wouldn't make much sense to lock it, otherwise.

Yeah huh! i want a feature to lock the sansa buttons but still being able to use them! Lock them with an unlockable way .

i had in mind my touchscreen smartphone and cowon J3. It sucks when you have your device in your pocket and you want to change a track. I had it on my sony ericsson w850i, lost it on all my nokia phones and found it back with my Cowon J3

Nevertheless i think that clip+ is a better bang for the buck. The only thing you lose probably is the support but its such a minimal device that its not a must to my papers.

I actually never lock my Clip+/Zip. Their buttons get almost never pressed by accident, no matter if I clip them to my tshirt or put them in a pocket.

But yeah, with touch screen devices it's certainly an advantage to only lock the screen while leaving the buttons unlocked. I love that feature on Cowon players.

I never had inadvertent button presses with the original Clip or Clip+. With the Clip Zip, yes--I find that even a light, inadvertent brush against the player in my shirt pocket can press a button (discouraging).

I can adjust the volume on my locked Clip Zip. No track skipping though.

My buttons don’t get pressed with the Clips even when I skateboard or bike ride, I use it on the rockboxed e260 and the cowon’s as well, easy feature to remember on them

Edit: BTW I clip mine above shorts pocket or pants with cable up the back of my t-shirt

Oh, thanks for clarifying that. Haven't used the stock firmware in months, for obvious reasons.

I accidentally skipped tracks on both zip and clip+ equally. I'm clumsier.

My Clip+ is nearing the end (headphone jack is worn out, battery life is starting to decline) so I have to decide between another Clip+ or the CZ.

Earlier in this thread, someone said that the CZ does not include "track elapsed time" on the display? Is that true? I listen mostly to long podcasts, sometimes through my PC and sometimes on the Clip+ standalone. It is absolutely essential that the player display show the elapsed time when I disconnect from the computer and want to get to the right point in the file for listening standalone. A "progress bar" is totally insufficient.

Yes, (without Rockbox) that is true. Witness (from Marvin's excellent review):

Is this also true for podcasts/audiobooks? I can't tell.

Also from Marvin's excellent review (post #1 of this thread, by the way ):

I'm not sure if audiobooks feature the time elapsed/remaining info as well, but I don't believe so. Marvin?

I've split a few posts from this thread to here.

Can Someone Test If 320 kbps AAC iTunes Files Play On The Clip Zip?
http://www.anythingbutipod.com/forum...ad.php?t=68816

Some of the info that was being put here seems as if more could benefit more members if it wasn't tacked on to the end of the review where it might get buried.

Carry on.

Reviving an old thread. I am in the market to replace my Clip+ and also buy one for my gf. Is the Clip Zip worth getting over the Clip+? Besides the Clip+ having a better battery life, is there any other reason to get one over the Clip Zip?

I've had both clip's and whilst i love the idea of the clipzip having a mini screen i was constantly disappointed by the screen quality, it was so bad why bother. It was actually kinda embarassing screen next to other mp3 players on the market, at least with a clip+ it looks like a dedicated DAP.
Everytime i look at the clipzip it makes me cringe now, i'm actually thinking of grabbing one of the NEW colours clip+ range.
So for me i would go clip+ personally, otherwise if yer like me everytime u'll use the zip u will be constantly reminded of what could have been.
just my 2 cents.

There's a few threads around like this one. http://anythingbutipod.com/forum/showthread.php?t=69667 You'll see a wider range of opinions as to which to get.

My advice is to get the one that's cheapest and or most convenient to get. There's not enough difference to me to make paying more or spending any extra effort for one over the other.

The rated battery life is the same 15 hours. I haven't noticed a difference in battery life in my personal use. Where did you get that information?
