Default The Samsung Galaxy Player 4.0 and 5.0 ARE different!

Quick analysis:

4.0 -- Better panel, probably a Super LCD (or Super Clear may be Samsung's name). Deeper color, holds color and black levels at wide angles.

5.0 -- Convinced that it's a VA-type panel, based upon shifting gamma at near black. Viewing angles, while wide, suffer from a slight color shift (see what happens to blue) and the black level deteriorates.

4.0 -- Good maybe slightly better than the 5.0?

5.0 -- Good

4.0 -- 1200mah, user replaceable, no life info, remaining battery shown as a percentage

5.0 -- 2400mah, user non-replaceable (so they think), slightly over 12 hours, remaining battery shown as a bar.

4.0 -- Brightness can be changed during play

5.0 -- Brightness cannot be changed because the firmware thinks its stuck in auto brightness mode.

4.0 -- No LED Flash

5.0 -- LED Flash.

4.0 -- Must remove back cover to access slot. The back however, is user removable -- there is a fingernail slot at the bottom.

5.0 -- Must open small latch to access slot

4.0 -- has small sliding cover for microUSB

5.0 -- no cover for microUSB

4.0 -- Volume rocker on left, on/off on right

5.0 -- Volume rocker on right, on/off on right

4.0 -- jack on top

5.0 -- jack on bottom

Update: Sound issue with 4.0 may have been my mistake, clarified 4.0 back removal.
