hello,
I was wondering if I can add a folder to my Sony Walkman A865 and store my documents in it. If I can, the Sony would also function as a memory card. In Linux Ubuntu, I can access the Sony folder structure, though I'm not able to add a folder. I copied & pasted my documents into the folder DCIM. It worked no problem, except that - if I open the folder through the walkman (after unplugging it from the pc) - I can't see specifically what files are stored in its subfolders (that it, the folders I copied and pasted): I get the message "no photos in selected item". Probably DCIM "belongs to" the Picture folder (?). I don't expect the Sony to "read" my files (word.docs, pdfs, etc). I'd just find it useful to replace my memory stick with it. Any idea? Thanks. |

I use my A867 to store some files that can't be read or displayed on the device itself, so yes, using it like a memory card or stick does work.
But under a Linux system, I can't say, because I don't use it. Normally, you would just set the device to MTP and drag and drop files and folders directly. As long as you can do that, you can put anything you want on it. |

I cant think of a reason why you can't add a folder with Ubuntu. I made a "Stuff" folder a long time ago when I got tired of playing the MTP game and carry all sorts of files there on a Sony NWZ E345. When I hook it up to a Linux or Mac system they see the player as a drive and I can use it like any other USB drive.
