Rockbox: Clip Zip

ok i may be being thick, can someone link to the last "stable" build of RB for clipzip with *no* USB support please? (i realise there may not be a stable yet, but i mean that others are using and found ok )

You don't have to use Rockbox USB. Just hold the left button or volume down button while plugging the (powered off) Zip into the USB port - then it uses the stock Sansa USB.

i know, but he (the person i'm giving this Zip to) will plug it in and hang it. not the brightest tool.. better it does nothing, or even better say "no usb support please restart holding left" or similar if that can be quickly patched?

Old behavior is that the Zip charges with Rockbox, but you still have to hold the button to get USB connected.

oh. i plugged it in from off, and usb in RB started working. same (latest) build. here's the weird bit: then it still works even if i disconnect and reconnect.
so usb ain't totally broken. hrm not sure. might roll back to that build above thanks.

i notice on the times USB does work, it says "database not ready" for a fraction of a second after the RB splash.

it's finicky though. sometimes works, sometimes hangs. i better try the older build.

In that case, maybe you should gift it without Rockbox...you can always add it at a later date.

yeah he's a musician, could use the RB features. thinking i should have got a Clip+ mine's lovely and stable heh.
ok that older build Df posted seems like it'll do, thanks. i mean it should avoid the hanging problem.
i'll come back later and check how USB support is going

(any way to make the bootloader boot OF when plugged into PC, but otherwise RB?)

Hi guys, I just bought a new Clip Zip. Tried Rockboxing it. Followed the instructions carefully. Now, when I plugged it back to my laptop so I can insert some mp3s already, I'm getting USB cannot be recognized error message. What am I doing wrong?

My Zip is running on r31350-111218, btw.

RDS is now part of the daily build!

It seems to work OK. Sometimes the info scrolls, sometimes it doesn't. Perhaps that action is controlled by the radio station?

I just plugged in both Zips and both were recognized on the first try....they are on r31320. So I am content.

I'm still getting nonsense in the current OF, like KGBR or KGCH, or nothing at all - it doesn't work for me, here in Vienna. In Rockbox it works perfectly well, except lines are not scrolling.

Any tips for converting videos to watch on the Zip? I tried to convert a video to watch on the zip yesterday, but it wouldn't play. I converted an avi file to mpeg-2, but all I got, when played on the zip, was a black screen with no audio.

Album art on this screen is one thing, but really, video? Seems silly to me.

It's silly but it works. At least the one I tried did for the minute or so I was willing to be bothered looking at it.

I used the Rockbox E200 preset in WinFF but saved a new preset with a resolution of 96x96 instead of 224x128. The results look like what you would expect on a screen the size of a postage stamp but it fit the screen and was in sync.

Not gonna watch Saving Private Ryan on it But I thought it would be fun to test it out. Planning on watching The Ricky Gervais show on my zip. The video isn't that important on that show, but it's still nice to have some pictures.
