it's not the screen size i'm mad about, it's the footprint.

all i want is a good android mp3 player. just one.

3.7-4" GOOD screen (but smallish overall footprint)
Respectable SQ
Competitive pricing
High quality materials and build quality
Where are you getting this 3.7" screen stuff from? Did it ship, or they released new specs on it?

the specs actually do not sound this bad...
only the battery-life sounds a bit low and only android 2.3 (but there could be an update).
BUT jeteffects 5

I would agree with that...at least this one should have gapless playback and can be had with 32GB and a card slot.

Yup, and it will most likely be able to use the current SDXC 64gb cards as well,...

Usual shitty Cowon Interface and no Android Market access. Then why releasing a PMP running Android? Are they stupid? Why do they need to ruin every product with their bad interface?

Not sure what you mean. The launcher on the D3 was just slightly altered from stock Android, the rest of the interface was stock. And a launcher is easily changed to whatever you prefer. The Z2 looks exactly the same as the D3 in that aspect. Getting Market on it is just a matter of time as well.

I mean I don't recognize Android on any picture of the product page
http://product.cowon.com/product/COW...uct_page_2.php

I just see an ugly Cowon C2-like interface

Of course they only show off their own media stuff, but as you know - you don't have to use any of those apps. I know I don't (on my D3).

I know you're not obliged to use the default music/video/FM apps but for many users including me, what's important is how it comes out of the box. I don't necessarily have time and will to hack the device to get something really cool. The Cowon launcher looks terrible, there is no official Android Market access and it lacks some features.
I hope the Sound Quality is really excellent otherwise there is no point of buying such a device rather than a Galaxy Player.

It's all the more disappointing as the hardware looks very good!

Like the improvement in the hardware department. A bit disappointed that it still doesn't have official market support, but I'm sure it'll get on there eventually.

I also think that persist in giving Cowon devices Android, whatever the release, is a quite bad idea.
Cowon has built it's reputation on the sound quality of it's mp3 drive as well as the battery life... dropped by the half because of Android.
22h is good for most of Android devices but Cowon devices aren't most of the mp3 players reason why I used to love them.
I guess I will replace my S9 (RIP) with a J3

I wish the battery life was better, like at least 40hrs. Still, this is a GOOD update IMO.

in some ways, yeah. better screen tech, SD card and such, but in actual size it's not as big a difference as it should be with .6" difference in screen size.

in centimeters the sony is 7.1x13.4cm.
Cowon is 6.5x11(about).

plus cowon just doesn't have that good of rep with android devices (d3 has its problems, though I'm curious if they've been solved?)

plus i just think the sony looks better(if it wasn't stuck with red or blue)

gonna come down to pricing.

What a waste. All that wonderful media support and audio quality... only to be completely rendered useless by such a tiny screen.

I guess it could still be a good audio player, but why bother with the video support for such a small display?

If only they could sell a 10" portable monitor to go with it as an accessory I would be all over this.

There’s certainly a lot of opinions one way or the other without it even in our hands or any testing

I'm just waiting for an SGP 5.0 competitor, screw all the other stuff without a 5 inch screen lol

3.7-4.3 inch screens aren't big enough. 5 inch is the sweet spot,no bigger and no less, just the perfect size.
