The Clip+ (with Rockbox) has been serving me well so far. But the small screen has been getting in the way of navigation, and managing bookmarks, audiobooks etc... I will be getting some kind of android device soon (probably tablet) and I would love to have all the advanced Rockbox features in that platform.
Is Android up to the task? Any deep audio player apps? Are there any plans to port Rockbox as an 'app' for android? It would be really cool. |

Rockbox for Android already exists. It's the only audio player I use on Android: http://www.rockbox.org/wiki/AndroidPort
Here's my 480x800 theme... it should give you more screen estate than the Clip+ - http://anythingbutipod.com/forum/showthread.php?t=66189

Just a warning: rockbox on Android works pretty well, but theres still a lot of rough edges compared to rockbox on dedicated mp3 players. Its been a major project to get it to work on touchscreen devices as an application.

I will certainly have to try this when I receive my Galaxy 5.0. I won't use my Sansas with anything but Rockbox, so if I can use it on the SGP, that would be great!
In all fairness, I'll probably still do most of my music listening with the Sansas and use the SGP for other stuff....but it would be nice to have RB available.

Would anyone really be annoyed if I changed the Clip+ keymap so that "home" on the main menu went to the WPS, and then remapped the current home function (back to previous) to some other combo? The current keymap really annoys me.

Heh, I just changed the keymap in my last patched build as well. I put return to WPS on the power button instead of that awkward home+select combination. (Actually, I swapped the two - I don't think using power to stop playback in lists is very often needed.) Yours is a good choice too, but I find the "cd .." feature the home button currently has kind of useful as well. But you can achieve the same with the left button anyways.

I would love to have a single-button-press route to the WPS from the menus. Though I'd prefer it to be available across all menus, I suppose double-clicking the "home" button (when in the file browser, for instance) to bring me swiftly to the main menu and then the WPS would still be a considerable improvement over the current situation. What are the odds of you making your proposed commit, saratoga?

Did i really post that in this thread? I thought I put it in the clip+ thread.
Anyway, I guess pretty good. I asked about it and most people agreed the current keymap sucked. I haven't had time to screw with it though.

I've been using Rockbox on my Captivate with CyanogenMod 9 ROM (aka Ice Cream Sandwich Rom) for quite sometime now. The port is still not very stable (at least in my case, I still have a few hiccups/crashes a day) but the experience is well worth it It's by far the best music player interms of conveniences and versatility of Rockboxing![]() I'm with you on the Sansa Clip Zip, it becomes my main driver for music player. BTW, anyone in the states wanna look at the Clip Zip 8GB at Costco, it's on sale now til April 1st for $45. I can't help but getting two for my backups
