Hi
I noticed this forum looks a bit dead from the last time I visited but I figured it was helpful the last time round so I'd give it a shot. Basically my zune 120gb stopped functioning a few weeks ago (i.e. won't turn on, won't charge etc). I've managed to disassemble and pry open the casing as I'm contemplating buying spare parts for it as opposed to another one. The problem is I'm not sure what exactly the problem is with my zune? Is it the hard drive that needs replacing or the battery? Is there anyway for me to find out or test the components, in particular the hard drive? Thanks to anyone who replies! |

It's probably not the battery if it doesn't turn on while charging. Have you tried all the button combos that reset the device?

I agree with stein. While plugged in one would see a dim battery/charge icon. If you don't see it, then it more so the hard drive. I've used rapidrepair.com in the past to fix my harddrive as I couldn't fix it. I ended up upgrading my 80gb matte black Zune to hold a 120gb drive. I am pretty cheap, but bit the bullet to fix my Zune and I was happy in the end.
Good luck and report back.

So you did get the software installed on reformatted drive okay and the program loads up fine?

I don't have a 120, does it have a user-accessible battery? If so, I would take a peek at it, see if there's any corrosion or something on it. If there is, you should dispose of it, CAREFULLY clean out the corrosion from the player, and try using it plugged in (you can get a new battery from some places on the net, at one time you could get one at rapidrepair.com). This is a complete guess by the way...

the 120 Zune has a soldered battery, could be difficult if you don't have any experience soldering.

Hi, yes got the program now. But my Zune cannot connect to the software. I have no experience in opening up harddrives like this so Im afraid I'd be doing it more bad than good. :S
