Cortex CHP-2500 Discussion Thread

these look to have the same body as the ultrasone 580s and these beyers are popular replacements for them. I believe some searching on headfi turned up some successful installs too. I used the pads off of my panasonic HTF600 with good results. They have the same shape as the beyers. TDS was going to go into BH or somewhere and see if there were any exact fit round velour options but I don't know if that has happened yet or not.

I had some akg 518djs for about a day. That wasnt enough to get a real good sound impression other than I liked them...the comfort wasn't acceptable to me at all. the cortex are much better. but as Marv said, they are a bit bulky.

TDS, you had the AKG 81 DJ IIRC. I like mine a lot for sound, not so much for comfort. Any SQ comparisons?

TBH I like the sq of the CHP-2500 a bit better, as the clarity is more noticeable. But, the the akg's have a warmer sound and are DEFINATELY more portable. They really do have different sound sigs,...so me comparing them is kinda moot me thinks.

Comfort wise the akg's are kinda bad though,...they fit slightly tight, and the headband isn't padded. They may not be bulky like the cortex cans, but they hurt my ears a bit. My 7 yo stole 'em,...smaller head & all. IDvsEGO was right to return them on that issue alone.

I have a pair of Beyerdynamic EDT 200 velour earpads coming in tomorrow. I bought it for another headphones, but will let you know if it fit the Cortex as well.

The pads I used are round, but I hope the bayerdynamic pads fit. I'll order a set then myself, and save a train ride for another day,...

I bought Beyerdynamic pads for the Panasonic RP-HTF600 which Idvsego mentioned that the stock Panasonic pads fit on the Cortex. And the Beyerdynamic pads for sure fits on the Panasonic. I guess we find out tomorrow for sure if the Beyerdynamic pads fit on the CHP-2500.

I'm more concerned about the depth than anything else. I want to skip adding extra padding,...and I didn't need to add padding with the srh-750dj pads. But, I want the velour pads the most. Those, to me, provide the best amount of comfort.

the panny pads fit but they arent a precise fit. pretty sure I talked about it int he original cortex deal thread. Good enough for me for sure

The Beyer pads arrived!!! Now, for them to fit the Cortex, you must use the bracket mount and then use adhesive tape which are not included with the pads.

You can't stretch them onto the housing, like the original pads?

It's much less stretchable than the original pads.
