Hi all, First time on here Thanks for all this information.


This Guide states its for the US version of the Samsung Galaxes s wi fi 5.0.


Im in the UK, does that mean I have the international version? YP-G70 ( the home button is actually a button)


If this is the case can I still update? My firmware version is 2.2.2


My issue, is I got the devise for the large screen, and music visualization Live wallpapers. This is fine but my media player of choice is Poweramp, which of course doesn’t let visualizations work on Android below 2.3. Some think to do with “ Poweramp doesn't play via system media player” but, For Androids 2.3+ Live Wallpapers work with Poweramp as well.


Also noticed the media volume widget dosn,t light up with Poweramp


I have been using a “galaxy S i9000” phone for the last eighteen months running on 2.3.3 and all works well. So would be impressed if I could get the 5.0 to work the same.


Questions.
Is there an android v2.3.6 custom ROM for my non US version?
Does anyone know where I can find it?
Will I lose the stock live wallpapers like” Spectrum” if I use a custom Rom?
Has anyone got Poweramp to work live wallpapers?

Hi xedee,
I think Samsung released an official 2.3.6 update for European players a few months ago. Install the KIES software and check for updates, if there is still no update you can try using this rom: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1579774

There's links for US and International players in there. Note that there are two version in that thread, 1.0 which is not rooted and 1.5 which is rooted and has a few tweaks.

KIES is not showing any updates from 2.2.2 here in the UK. Gess I will have to try them when I have the confidence.

Wow!! That was quick and easy! I havent wiped anything yet, do I need too?

About device tells me im now on 2.3.6! The swipe screens canged and oh yes, music visualization Live wallpapers responding to Poweramp love it

Sorry I missed your 2nd post xedee,
Some people report that their players work just fine without doing a wipe but if you encounter any problems such as music files being listed twice or not playing correctly then you will need to do a wipe.

Post back if you need any help.

Ok, I don’t seem to have any problems except the Poweramp volume issue. This was not there on the before the upgrade so i have turned off the” Direct Volume Control” which sorted the problem out.


Installed " Equalizer" to boost the volume back, (Car use mainly through head unit) this sort of compensates for the lack of the Direct Volume Control in Powramp but creates noise at low volume headphone listening.


All in all very pleased, every thing working well. Thanks.
