Default What is the best MP3 Player out there or coming next? (M4a) Sell my Cowon J3?

Hello guys, i rarely use my J3 due to the not working M4A format from iTunes. Using iTunes match. Can u give me any advice? Or should I solely rely on my smartphones abilities?

The inexpensive Clip Zip is a geat little player, and it will play M4A files. HOWEVER, I have read that some M4A files don't work. Not sure if this has been repaired by a new firmware update.

100% of my m4a files work. Both of them.

The AAC decoder in the sandisk firmware doesn't work properly regardless the source of the files. It's been improved so that it doesn't distort at higher bitrates but it still won't play m4a files once the duration is past a certain length. The same files in mp3 play with no problem.

In my experience that's been somewhere ~ 10-13 minutes that the sandisk firmware ignores AAC files. It doesn't play them poorly. It just skips past them and goes to the next song. It's not a hardware limitation, the same files play just fine in Rockbox.

just convert everything to mp3 and forget about m4a limited compatibility.

Don't know where the two songs came from. They are old songs, so presumably from about 2005 when I had an iPod and thus iTunes.

Since that was a crappy iPod, neither the hard drive nor the battery lasted two years of fairly light use, I haven't used an iPod or iTunes since.

I got my first (of two) Samsung YP-Z5 in Fall 2006, and my first Clip was bought in Dec 2007. They are all still working just great.

Sonys play M4A files. The iTunes Match format is the same as iTunes Plus. AAC files encoded by iTunes at @256kbps. Nothing special there. My Sony players have no problems playing files encoded to those specs.

You don't say what capacity or price range you're looking at so it's not really possible to make a decent suggestion. If you edit this info into your first post someone may be able to suggest something suitable.

I have a ClipZ and consider it the worst mp3 player I've ever owned. I'm looking for something different to take to the gym. I also own a Cowen S9 and Samsung Galaxy Player 5.0 Korean Model.

"worst mp3 player I've ever owned," simply does not compute IMHO

Edited: to include original ludicrous quote

I find the statement... amusing at best After following recommendation from this board, I bought the Clip Zip (rockboxed of course...) and found it to be as good or better than most out there in the market. It's also my main driver to the gym as well...

I'm on my second Clip Zip. The only problem is it's so small it's easily misplaced so I had it surgically implanted to my testicles so that way when I adjust the volume people just think I'm scratching myself.
Seriously though I'm holding out for a better version of the fuze + because the zip is a bit small for my taste, but man it sounds great.
