Microsoft officially confirms Windows Phone’s 80,000 app milestone

Last week, multiple outlets reported that Microsoft had passed the 80,000 app mark in its Windows Phone Marketplace. Of course, it’s not official until the Redmond software giant officially confirms the figure, which it did on Monday in a blog post by Terry Myerson, the Corporate Vice President of the Windows Phone Division.

According to Microsoft, approximately 300 new apps are added to the Windows Phone Marketplace every day. The Marketplace itself will soon span 63 countries—right now, it’s sitting at 54. The recently released Nokia Lumia 900 has been very well received, but a common complaint is that some popular apps have yet to reach the Windows Phone platform. Thankfully, this generally isn’t too big of a problem, since Windows Phone has some great alternatives to these missing apps. Of course, with the Lumia 900’s current popularity, Windows Phone’s app selection is sure to increase even more in the coming weeks and months.

Did you look at all 80K or are you just being the heckler again? Rhetorical question no need to reply. I think competition is good, even though I don’t care for phones I’d like to see RIM, MS, Google, whoever come on strong and give apple the shake up they need ...

I think it's going to keep growing, as android will, and apple's dominance will diminish.

Stop being a douche, that's my job!!! As for being satisfied, I'll find out on Thursday when my Lumia 900 arrives. And it even has the feature I require - the columns auto-align when you double tap when reading a paragraph in a forum. That alone is a selling point for me.

I assumed that was fairly standard... My SGP does it, so I assumed most did.

The Samsung phones I tried don't do it, like the Galaxy Note. I might have bought it by now, but I'm actually glad I didn't. I'd have had buyers remorse. With the Lumia 900 I believe I made the right choice.

Now, I just need another cheap-o android device to put my games & apps on. This way I have 'em in case I or my family wants to mess with them.
