Default Netflix for Windows Phone updated with subtitles, additional markets

Netflix has released an update for its Windows Phone app, adding support for subtitles and alternate audio streams and improving performance. The red disc and streaming video giant has also made the app available in additional markets, specifically Ireland, Latin America, and the UK.

While the amount of new features and improvements in version 2.0 is fairly small, the impact is quite large. Before today, Netflix’s Windows Phone app only worked in the US and Canada. Alternate audio and subtitles, meanwhile, will allow subscribers to watch their favorite movies and TV shows in other languages, when available. Even more importantly, people who are hard of hearing will have a much better entertainment experience with subtitles. It’s also great for deciphering quickly-spoken or heavily accented lines of dialog, as well as situations where the viewing environment is less than ideal.

If you haven’t already received a notification about the Netflix app update, you can download it immediately by finding Netflix in the Windows Phone Marketplace, backing out, and selecting it again. The update button should now be available.

Have you downloaded Netflix 2.0 yet? What do you think? Are there any other features you’d like to see Netflix add?
