Verizon Wireless has begun rolling out a new update for the HTC Trophy, bringing the phone’s Windows Phone OS in line with Microsoft’s latest release. The update is comprised of Windows Phone builds 7740 and 8107, as well as a firmware update from AT&T.
Improvements include a fix for the infamous disappearing keyboard bug, a resolution for an issue with Google mail sync, updated digital certificates for enhanced security, better email forwarding, and a fix for voicemail notifications under certain conditions.
Those with an HTC Trophy on Verizon should receive a message alerting them to the update in the near future, if not already. Simply connect the device to the Zune software client on PC (or the Windows Phone Connector on Mac) to update the device.
Surprisingly, the Big Red network managed to beat competitor—and Windows Phone premiere partner—AT&T to the punch. Of course, this could be attributed to the fact that Verizon sells just one Windows Phone, whereas AT&T has offered eight different devices since late 2010. Developing, testing, and deploying an update for a single handset is a much simpler task.
Are OS updates a nice bonus, or should deploying them be mandatory for manufacturers and carriers?
