I like the stock android alarm clock on my SGP5.0.
I'd like to ditch my old clock radio but it does one thing for me that I want...it provides a display of time all night. My SGP is a dark scree, of course, when it's asleep. I'd like to prop the SGP on a stand, and get a clock display all night. do not need any alarm function (especially one that requires you to do a math problem to shut the alarm off! How ridiculous is that?) Also, it really needs to be dim...most displays are way too bright for nightime use. And it needs to move the display around somehow to avoid screen burn-in. I've looked at several on the market but none seem to meet these criteria. Any ideas? |

afaik? Are you saying that there is a night clock display available in the stock android clock/alarm app? I don't see it. I also don't see it under Settings\Sate and Time. Please advise. thanks. |

AFAIK is shorthand for "as far as I know"
I do not have your particular device but my android 2.2 phone has a bed clock feature in the alarm clock app. Open the alarm app, hit the menu button and press "bed clock". Alternatively I can bring it up by long-pressing the clock in the alarm menu. Failing that there are also quite a few "night clock" apps in the marketplace, I can't comment on them since I use the default one. Most should do the trick though I'd recommend one that does not ask for excessive privileges. |

I have used "Big Digital Clock" on occasion. It is pretty easy to configure. I have used a black background with dull red numbers. I don't think it allows for moving the display around though. Not sure how bad burn in would be if you used it every night. I will say that you will be surprised at how much light comes from even a "solid black" background with the display active in a dark room.

skwatch: Yeah I read a few reviews of various apps and most of them complained of overly bright displays. a few noticed that using the app for a couple of months burned in digits on the screen.
sideways: the stock clock app on this device has Alarm (no menu other than Create and Delete), World Clock, Stopwatch, and Timer.

Aaah the android experience. Different on every device. Somewhere along the way that feature was either added to mine or removed from yours. Mine looks like this.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but can't you just lock the screen?...

You could set digital clock display to activate when device sleeps....from, say, 10:00 PM to 6:00 AM. I installed Flip Table Clock by ENYSOFT. It's extremely basic but works ok. It's just black and white "flip-clock" numbers. No font, size or color options. No screen-saver or "move around" to avoid burn-in. Couple of very basic parameters. Dim options aer pretty good...presets, not a slider, but the dim is really nice and dim...works well in dark room without blinding. You have to manually activate it when you plug into charger for the night. wish numbers could be larger does not work for portrait orientation no alarm functions- which is great for me. The stock alarm works fine- and i'm not interested in stupid math questions to turn the darn alarm off. How ridiculous. So far, although what I'm looking for seems like the most basic app possible- apparently it's not really out there. |

I use Alarm Clock Plus - it is a free app. It sets multiple alarms with all types of configurations, alarm snooze, clock faces, alarms, ability to use an mp3 as an alarm, different alarm sounds for different alarms, etc. It runs while the the SGP sleeps. It does not keep the screen always on but all you need to do is push the power button to wake the screen and lock screen has a large digital clock display at the bottom.
If you want a clock that remains lit and can always be seen from a distance, buy a battery clock for less than $10. Use the SGP with Alarm Clock Plus to use as an alarm - it wakes the SGP when the alarm goes off. I use this app when I travel - it works very well. |

I turn down the SGP5's back lighting to minimum and use "Alarm Clock Plus" which does all your asking for. George |

I'm not finding the "No Screen" app. Does it have another name?
Thanks, Steve |

Go to the Market and search for "No Screen Off". It will also be found if just "No Screen" is entered, but it's about #20 down the list.
No Screen Off - "Allows to suspend the automatic screen off. Then, reactivate it with the previously memorized delay." George |
