Hi All.......
I bought my SGP4 a couple weeks ago at BestBuy for $199 and went to BestBuy today and their price is now $179.......went to Customer Service Dept and they gave me the $20 back!.....how cool is that? I understand they will do this for anything you buy there for 30 days. I was really surprized that they had lowered the price this soon....I had a hard time buying my SGP4 because they were out of stock and I had to wait for a new shipment......and today they told me that the Riot Outfitters silicone case that is on their Website for $14.99 is obsolete! They looked up another store in my area and they had one left and sold it to me for $7.99.....it's a perfect fit. Maybe with the new other units out now they are backing off the SGP4? Glad I got mine when I did. Regards, Chuck, CABGx3+AAA |

many many places had them on sale at that price back around christmas so its not that radical a price drop, plus isn't the 4.2 due sometime soon (that should drop the price some).

I would not exactly call it a "second generation" of Galaxy Players. I can't figure out what they're doing but smaller screens and not upping the specs of hardware or going to ICS is not second generation to me.
Give me super amolded with something greater than 800 x 480 (the screen from the Galaxy Note would be nice...), dual core, 1 Gz minumum clock speed, , a better camera app, and a replaceable battery, and ICS w/ NFC. That would be second generation. Continuing to release "new" devices with Gingerbread and old displays feels sort-of like a yard sale. Recycled stuff. It's sort-of nuts when you look at the comparison between Apple and Samsung...Apple makes ONE phone and ONE "player". That's it! Very, very simple. And profitable. They make them great and they sell seventeen trillion a day. Samsung has to make fourteen weak variations of one concept? How does that make them money? I'd rather see one or two strong products (which they have in the 4.0 and the 5.0) and then call it quits. Make a real second generation for the 4.0 and the 5.0 with real upgrades. Call them 4.1 and 5.1. Or call them 4X and 5X. Or call them Bert and Ernie...Whatever. They have the 7.0 Tab now so another thought is to just bring the 4.0 and the 5.0 into the Tab lineup. That's really what they are anyway and consumers will understand that better, and ultimately pay more for that, than an mp3 "Player". Pretty much anything can play audio and video files now anyway...so the "player" market is really dying and the "tablet" market is increasing. I'd like to see a tablet with stereo mic and line-level inputs! Then you could put Garage band, VLC and Audacity on the thing and you've left the "player" category back in the stone ages. That would be more successful in terms of (4" and 5" device) consumers getting ICS and future updates in firmware and specs...as well as consolidating things at Samsung and increasing their profits. Android platform is fractured enough without Samsung making their own Android product line more fractured and confusing. There...I'm done. I gotta go get more coffee and get back to work. |

So,...post this in the "Deals" section of the forums, with a link to it. Everyone benifits that way.

Samsung needs to take a long hard look at their so-called "Ipod-killer", the SGP and realize that they will lose the customers that bought the SGP because Samsung failed to support the product they sold. |

Assuming the hardware is compatible, yes....but not all versions are compatible. My sister's Touch can no longer be updated....hers is forever at iOS 4.something....iOS 5 and beyond won't work.

I do think Samsung had a better approach offering three (soon to be four) similar variations on the same player. That's not to say that they shouldn't be supporting the players, which they should, I just think that having the option to go with a 3.6" screen, a 4", 4.2", or 5" screen and the various changes in lifestyle compatibility they offer (mostly speaking to battery life vs. price here) was ultimately a good move. I certainly would not have bought any of the players besides the 5.0.

I would easily buy the 5.0. over the others, however it not having a removable battery bothers me, since I prefer devices with removable batteries. |

Though come to think of it, my Sansa e260 may not hold a full charge anymore, but I've moved on since then, and will move on from my SGP before it becomes a necessity to replace the battery. |
